This doesn't have as much to do with DirecTV programing but more MHD's programing.

I love some of the content on MHD and the sound quality is EXCELLENT... However they don't seem to be doing ANY processing or leveling of any type. There are easily 20dB+ swings in audio levels that make watching the channel unbearable at times. OK, maybe not unbearable but uncomfortable.

I'm not blaming DirecTV, just wondering if they have any "influence" in the matter.

I've noticed the same thing.
When the commercials come on, the sound just blasts our living room.
And then the sound goes back to normal during the shows.
It's gotten to the point, where we just make sure the receiver is not set too loud on that channel.
They really should do something about that.

No doubt, although the last time I watched MHD, which was VHI Rock Honors The Who last Thursday, the commercials, promos and program were all about the same volume.

The audio was consistent throughout the program but when a few of the commercials came on I thought someone had sat on the remote. It actually startled my wife and I and we weren't even in the same room. :)

Is that Sugarland concert the same one they had on back like January or February? That was excellent, and I don't even consider myself a "country music fan". Just curious since my DirecTV account is still on hold (3 more weeks until the house is done baby!) and I can't see any of this stuff yet :(

it may be cause the concert was from summerfest last july....i dont know cause i just got the channel for the 3 month hd pack free preview.

the music genre lines are blurry....right now on the country top 40 chart are songs by kid rock, jewel, darius rucker (from hootie & the blowfish), and jessica simpson.

Without a doubt. I listen to everything, save for 99% of Rap and Hard Core "Scream Rock" and I absolutely hate it how some acts get away with this crossover garbage so easily. Kid Rock and Jessica Simpson are about as country as Jaun Valdes is Canadian. If I'm listening to a country music station the last thing I want to hear is Kid Rock and Jessica Simpson overexposing their latest overplayed track.

Pardon me whilst I step down off my soapbox

FXHD is a good one for blowing your ears out too.. especialy during weekend movies..
At least my local NBC just distorts the crap out of it

I probably have hearing loss from Music With Altitude: Goo Goo Dolls. When it gets to the point when they preform Better Days, I crank it as loud as I can. That song means a lot to us in the Buffalo area.

Country music is no more. Alan Jackson and Toby Keith are just about all that's left of country. I can't stand Kid Rock but I like All Summer Long even if it's a total ripoff. And Jewel, I used to think she was so hot, I was flipping through and saw here on GAC, damn what happened there.

I don't watch the channel, but on the channels I have seen with overloud commercials, it was the DirecTV-inserted ads that were too loud. The ones from the channel were OK.

My only gripe with MHD is that it is the only channel on my 1:1 pixel mapping TV that has a vertical line on the side of the screen (left side). To "remove" the line, I need to "turn on overscan" by changing the aspect of my Samsung from "Just Scan" to "16:9"...which I hate doing. C'mon MHD, you're the last hold out...even NBC and HDNet fixed this issue...

It's on the HD Extra Package.....$4.99/month
But I think there's a deal right now where you can get it free for 3 or 4 months

its like when a store has those secret sales....when u call u have to say the secret code line:

"even a man whos pure of heart & says his prayers at nite may become a wolf when the wolfbane blooms & the autumn moon is bright."

I found that I get HDNET and HDNET Moives, but not the other 3 channels that are supposed to be in the package.. But I'm not being charged for it either......

Mark Cuban threw a fit when DirecTV tried to make customers pay extra for his channels by moving them to the HD Extra package.
(Mark Cuban owns HDNet and HDNetMovies)

I thought a compromise was reached and HDNet would remain part of the "free" HD Access package and HDNetMovies would move to the HD Extra package with MHD, UHD, and some others I forget.

THe HD Extra pack for 4.99 extra a month is:

HDNet Movies
MGMHD
Universal HD (UHD)
Smithsonian HD
MHD

Did you upgrade from the old HD service? Maybe you are grandfathered in for a time or something or your account did not get fully changed properly.

I had HD with my DTivo and switched to an HR20/21, if that counts. I may have only checked HDNet and not HDNet Movies.... I was looking for MHD when it all started, perhaps I was mistaken - I got the 3 months free again, I got it when I dumped the Tivo also.
