Is there a way to have the remote that controls the 508 in our living room, not control the 301 we have in the kitchen? Would be nice, if when we changed channels etc. on the 508, it didn't change the channel on the 301 too.

Yes there is, you would need to change the remote code. Put something over the receiver's front IR sensor (to the right of the power button) in which you are not programming the code into. Press System Info Button, hold down satellite button until tv/vcr/auz buttons light up at the same time then release the SAT button. Press another number other than 1 (which is the factory default) up to 15 (I think that is the maximum number you can program into the remote, someone else on here will have to correct me on that if I am wrong). After you do that press the pound button (#). Take the object away from the other receiver's IR sensor on the front. You have now changed the code and it should not change channels on the other receiver.

You can ONLY change remote codes on receivers that have the system info screen up. So no covering IR windows needed.

Also, after you change the code in the remote, you need to press the "rec" button to lock in the code. When you have the info screen up, the remote address will change to the number you selected, when you press the "rec" button.

Thanks Clearcom, I couldn't figure out why it would change the code on the remote, but not the 508, now I know.
Out of sheer boredom, I just checked, and the highest remote address I could set was 19.

Do the newer receivers have the ability to have a higher remote address than the older ones? I thought I read it was like 15 or something on the older ones.
Also the reason I say to cover the IR screen is because if you dont then all receivers that you have in the same room will do the same functionality on it if they all have the same code in it. I have noticed that the non-multifunctional remotes without the blue buttons that were dedicated that were included in the 2700/2800's would do the satellite functions no matter what the satellite code is in the other receivers. Do these remotes have all the codes in it or something since the satellite code cannot be changed in the remote? Its like a master remote or something when it comes to this.

I can't seem to get my 301 remote and receiver to change remote codes, as I could with the 508, should I be able to?
Just change the 508, you only need to change one of your receivers codes. As for the 301 it should be the same method.

My 508 died and isn't in use right now. I now have a 301 in the living room and kitchen, til I get a replacement for the 508. I go through the same steps, and it only changes the code on the remote, and not the code for the receiver.
