Okay, I've only seen the first part all the way through (twice and a half) and have the second part playing as I type (I'll watch it tomorrow along with part three). But after looking at the first part (and a very condenced version of Children of Dune--the whole book was pretty much contained here. Dune Messiah is I guess condensed in the next two episodes--I kind of liked it. No it was not 100% faithfull to the book, but it was close. I guess if you have never read the books the movie would be fine (if a little cryptic). But I do like the fact that the movie is pretty much self-contained. It doesn't seem to need the original story (Dune) except maybe for a backstory. I really like the style so far. It's a novela the way the books were written. Lots of intrigue without the tedium. And some of the more abstract portions of the story were handled quite well.

The only thing I didn't like was the "Godfather-like" scenes when Chani was giving birth to Leto (the second child by that name from Chani) and Alia.

More to come after I watch the next two parts.

What did you all think?

 I enjoyed it alot. Now if a director's cut will become available for it like Dune, last year.

After having watched the whole thing, now I can ask: When is "God Emperor of Dune" going to be made into this pretty darned good series! :-)

I have to reread the books.

I liked it, but it was hard to follow. I had to watch it 2x and pay close attention, they tried to cram the whole book(s) in there. It probably has been 10 years since I read the books, I will have to go back and read them again.

I had to watch each episode at least twice to follow it well. When you go back to read the books, you will realize just how much they altered the story to fit it in to a 6 hour show. But the essense of the story remained. But the books and the mini-series are substancially different.
