Ready to order SlimLine and HR-21 "Free HD Swap" to replace Phase III/R-15 HD and very wary of usual incompetence of DirecTV installers.
Can the SlimLine dish (much larger/heavier) be mounted on existing Phase III post?
Is an SW8 required or just can existing 4 x 8 multisitch be used.
sorry for my inexperience.
Has anyone used professional installers (for extra fee) in Western Chicago suburbs (nr Naperville) ?

Im not sure on the Phase III post size, but the SL needs a 2" post. Something Ive done twice, that has worked well, is buying a 24" pc of 2" exhaust from an auto parts store and slipping it over the thinner pole. I then use stainless bolts and drill holes thru both pcs.

If you look at my SWM8 pics, you should see it.

Nope. Not the same diameter and not strong enough.

Is an SW8 required or just can existing 4 x 8 multiswitch be used. Unless you have issues with running multiple wire you don't need a SWM. But you would have to upgrade to the wideband Zinwell WB68 switch.

Thanks, Elwaylite and Mertzen.
Dish Mount: Think I'll go with new roof-mount heavy-duty tripod for the new SlimLine.
Switch: Seems like SWM-8 worth the extra cost now for internal wiring options rather than buying Zinwell WB68.
Can I trust installer sent by DirecTV?

Unless you need extra elevation for LOS I'd advise against it. Remeber you're dealing with a dish twice the size and the weight of the old one; not to mention increased wind load. I'd stick with the standard issue 2" mast and two or three monopoles. Also HSPs generally don't do tripods for ka.ku

Hit or miss. You can always look into a trusted local retailer. But since you are current D* customer their deal might not be all to good if they can perform the actual upgrade at all. They can probably do the dish work [ for a price of course ] and get the IRDs from the HSP shmuck

My Slimline is mounted on the Phase III mount. Bought a sleeve to slide over the mast from Solid Signal and it has been performing wonderfully for over a year now. Just checked it last weekend when I was tweaking for 99(c) and everything is real solid. I guess YMMV.
