I had a hr20 with a FAP esata drive hooked up, and was getting lock ups every 3-4 days. Guy came out, said the box was bad, and gave me a new hr21. Ran it for a day without the esata in, and all was good.

Since then, I've tried a bunch of times to hook my old FAP drive up to it, but only once has it been recognized. And when it was, the whole box ran real slow. I'm thinking my drive is bad, but figured since it would get wiped out since it cant play the old shows, I'd give that a try first. Foolishly, I pulled the esata cable out when trying to reboot so I could force the format of the drive. Since then, I haven't been alble to get the drive to be recognized in my hr21.

I looked through the forum, and didn't see anything matching this problem. I also bought a siig cable, which seems to go deeper into both the drive and the hr21, but nothing.

If anyone has had this problem, or knows of something you need to do when moving the drives from one receiver to another (I haven't seen anything on this, so I'm guessing no), I'd really appreciate it. I'm getting close to trying to RMA my FAP, because I've also noticed that the bottom of it gets VERY hot.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

:welcome_s to DBSTalk, h8red!

Sorry to have to be the one to tell you but the FAP's do not work with the HR21's.

If you do a search for FAP or Free Agent Pro and HR21 you should find some discussion about it.

Sorry but as Mike said, the FreeAgent Pro has problems with the HR21s.

This link might explain some things...

I had the same problem. I had a 750GB FAP that wouldn't work with my HR21-100.

I took my 750GB drive out of FAP enclosure and put it in an Antec MX-1 enclosure and it worked flawlessly.

Welcome to the forum and hope this helps.

I don't know how I didn't see that before. My search skills failed me. Thanks guys, I think I have another drive laying around I can try. I really appreciate the quick responses. Weird how it booted once, but I'll chalk that up to a fluke.

Erratic would be a generous assessment of the FAPs with HR21s. I learned early on it was a no go. On the other hand the FAP 750 gig works very well with my HR20-700.
