First off, I'm new here....so hello to all.
I've actually been reading from here for a few months, but just joined up.
Anyway, I currently "rent" my 501 for 5 extra bucks a month, which is WELL worth it. My question is....does anyone know if the 921 will be available in the same kind of way? I mean, could I simply upgrade to the 921 when it comes out for the usual 5 bucks a month?
I know that it's not out yet...and answers may be few and far between....but I figured I'd ask. It's a HUGE consideration for me as my HDTV is coming in a month, and Comcast cable just announced their HDTV support for the Atlanta area.
Man, I want to keep my Dish and my PVR stuff, so I'm hoping they will work with me. I know I will not have the money for a PVR 921 after I purchase my rear projection HDTV ;)
Thanks guys
J

I meant to also add that I used the search function for "rent," and didn't get an answer to my question.
Just making sure you knew that I did try to find it before I posted it...
Thanks again,
J
Welcome to DBS Forums:
Well. cosidering that the 921 will be towards $1000 dollars to buy, I seriously doubt They would rent them for 5 bucks a month. What Dish might do is create an HDTV rental package which I am sure would be more than $5.00 per receiver (ouside of programming costs). This is pure speculation as I have heard nothing from anyone about this possibility. There are others that probably are a lot more informed about this than I am. Just some opinions

Cool...thanks Tim. Yeah, I would venture to say that 5 bucks would be a little too nice....but I'd even do 10 or maybe 15.
See, I think I've actually saved money by not buying the 501 and instead renting it....as the cost of me renting it added up doesn't come close to what the unit actually costs. And, I'm already ready for an upgrade to the unit.
I guess we'll have to see unless someone knows more...

Welcome to DBSTalk, breathofj. :hi:
I seriously doubt you'll be able to rent a 921 at all considering that you cannot get a 721 in the DHP plan, and the 921 will initially cost around $500 more than the 721.

Yeah....not what I want to hear, but pretty much what I expected to hear. My only hope is that Dish realizes that Cable HDTV is going to be a huge competitive swing, and with that they offer some incentives. That's my hope.
For the first time since I moved into my house, I'm considering switching to cable, and I don't like it. I really love Dish, and I love their customer service, assistance with problems, and overall ease of use. But, I am really going to want HDTV, and I can rent the stupid cable box.
Decisions suck. If I could just win the lottery, all of the "I wants" would be obtainable :p
thanks

My guess is that they may offer a 6000 or whatever replacement HD reciever may be coming down the pipe on a rental basis, in order to compete with cable companies as they get bigger in HD. Some cable companies charge $10-$15 a month for theirs.
Like Mark said, I don't believe there is any way they will be renting HD PVR's like the 921.

If you cannot rent a 721 then you definitely will not be able to rent a 921. Dish will say to use a credit card and pay them the monthly fees.
