View Full Version : Movies Now - gone?
I'm not seeing any movies available under my Movies Now/Showcase tab today. Just showcases. Did this disappear or is this a problem with my setup?

Good, now if I had the option to delete them I'd be happy.

yea i had 5 movies there and directv changed the expiration date on all of them to 7/31 so they all went bye bye....one had been set at 10/31....they did it right before the channel changes this past thursday....wonder if that and the august 14 changes have something to do with it.
I don't think it's gone cause I still have 6 Movies Now. Some expire in September and October, like The Eye and 27 Dresses. I kinda wish mine would disappear like you guys...

I have 0x255. That's the latest NR that I've heard of. I have read about people's Movies Now getting wiped with the 0x25B CE. That's probably why I still see them.

Before they disapearred, I had 10 movies on one HR20 and 7 on another. No ryhme or reason for the difference. Again, with the 24-hour limit, I don't care if they are there or not.

I had 10 HD movies there the last time I had checked. Now they are gone.
I'm not going to be very happy if it is going to be common for D to store 10 HD movies on MY recorder that I will NEVER watch (@$4.99 each)

Exactly. I just wish that reserve space could some how be given to us. What exactly is D*'s partition of the hard drive? 50 GB??
I had 10, the expire dates all changed from Sept., Oct. to 7/30 on the 29th. Then pooof -- all gone. Hopefully for good in my case.

i saw a post that said on the hr21-700 the breakout is something like this:
320gb total -
40gb dvr operating usage.
230gb user usable = 50 hrs hd.
50gb directv showcase reserved.
so if someone has 10 movies directv has to be going over their alotted 50 gb.

I had 10 on my HR20 that always has about 80% free, but 7 on my HR20 that is close to the opposite. So maybe they "borrow" space based on how much free space you have. Not a big deal if they work like TiVo Suggestions and auto-delete if the space is needed by a user defined recording.

still doesnt make it right imo....directv cant even get the "channels i get" option to work after 2 years....so i dont trust them to give dvr space back if i need it.

I still have 11 showing on my R15. Useless for me as I won't ever watch them that way.

Not fair. I seem to remember that the CIR issue was because of legacy receivers, not because of the HR2x's themselves. (Did the CIR trigger all those problems of channels disappearing on HR10s about a year and half ago?)
All of our receivers don't have Movies Now anymore. The tab is still there but the movies are gone. As long as they can't take the Red Box away from my area I'm happy. :)

Is it really YOUR recorder though? Do you buy it or lease it?
Dish reserves space on their DVRs as well. Cable you have no control over what they do either as it is provided by the cable company.
On my D15-500 I have 12 movies available to me in the Movies & Showcase tab, but on my HR21-700 their are no movies to see. I think that is very odd. Also, the movies that D* puts on your DVR does not take any of the personal Hard Drive space. The Hard Drive has a special partition on it for D* to use. If you see that the space on hard drive is being used up because of D* adding those movies to it you need to call them and let them know because they should not be using that space.

R15 and R22 recorded another "movies now" this morning at 5AM CDT, so they aren't gone (unfortunately). Maybe they made some changes and are now pushing new movies with those changes implemented. Incidentally, expiration date on my movies now hasn't changed....but the newest one recorded this morning expires in about 3 weeks.
I still think MOVIES NOW is using HDD space designed for customer use on the R15 but not on the R22 (or perhaps the HD DVR's).

Defects in how the R15 does things not withstanding;
I can see some possibilities: 1) DIRECTV might have decided there are some defects that require removing the movies now for awhile (like the next R15 NR?)
2) DIRECTV wanted to reset them all for the Olympics
3) DIRECTV wanted to reset them for the month (hard to believe as they had expiration dates into the future, but it can happen)
4) Some other logical reason that I'm not privy too. :)
Cheers,
Tom

I can see some possibilities:
5) Nobody was buying them due to the 24-hour rule. ;)

Then wouldn't normal PPV have gone away as well? :)

Mine are gone too.
I love this feature! We rent many hdppv's and the new 24 hr rule has affected us very little. I'd love to see a 72 hr limit but so be it.
It's nice to see that portion of the hard drive get really utilized, as it is my portion is almost always full.

I have had the Movies in Movies Now change the expire date and delete several times. It seems when my recording space gets low the movies now start to get removed and when my recording space frees up as I watch show I record and delete then the moves start show up again. I have been wondering if DirecTV has started using more then their set quota like a percent of free recording space to fit more recordings in the movies now.

I just counted 9 HD PPV channels as of right now, and out of those 9, three of them have the same movie on.
My question is, whey do we need so many PPV channels? Instead of having the same movie on 3 different channels, and showing the same movie on the same channel through out the day, why not spread the movies out on less channels over they day? I mean we can always find the movie we want, record it and watch it later.

Like I've said above in earlier post above, why do we need so many PPV channels? Wouldn't one movie, or several movies per channel be enough? I think it would free up some bandwidth. I don't know.
