EchoStar and DirecTV took their proposed merger to the local level this week, hosting media events throughout the country that touted the virtues of their $26 billion deal to combine assets.
Events this week took place in Green Bay, Wis., Salt Lake City and Helena, Mont.
The events included demonstrations showcasing satellite-delivered TV and high-speed Internet access, as well as an explanation from the companies on how the merger will deliver local TV channels across the country.
In Wisconsin, State Rep. Phil Montgomery hosted the Green Bay event.
In addition to the events, both companies ran advertisements in newspapers promoting the merger, suggesting that today, "42 million American homes have little or no real alternative to cable for local programming." The ads appeared in Wisconsin, which said more than 2 million homes could get high-speed Internet service via satellite, and in Montana, where more than 300,000 households will be able to get the same offering, the ads said.
