I have a Sony laptop that has '"click to BD" which can play blurays and record blurays. It came installed on the laptop and has worked flwalessly the few times I have used it.
Although I have not tried it, I understand that CyberLink has a good product for BR playback.
yeah, it seems like cyberlink and anydvdhd are 2 of the big players

Not yet, but I plan to. I am going to buy a NAS (network Attached Storage) drive and then start ripping. I'm waiting for prices to drop a little more. I actually plan to rip normal DVDs as well.

does windvd9 support ripping blu rays, or would i need another program. i also am interested in buying a NAS drive. i was looking at a WD mybook world edition. you can get a 1TB drive for under $200

I recommend ANYDVDHD. You can rip BD to harddisk.

Yes anydvdhd is a good choice and there are others as well, just google it. Yes I have seen the WD, but am looking at a Buffalo unit because its scaleble to several HDDs. Remember, Blu-ray files are huge. So 1TB will fill up quickly, but will hold about 40 movies at 25GB each, if i'm doing my math correctly.
Of course you can always delete and then do 40 more, or just get a book shelf and keep the WD drives on it because they look like books anyway. Actually that would be pretty cool. Imagine a book shelf filled with digital goodness.

Cyberlink came installed on my HP. Actually it's a program called HP DVD Play, which is just a rebranding of Cyberlink. It plays both BD and HD DVDs, great software, but it seems a tab bit sluggish.

Are any of you running SPDIF out (optical) from your HTPCs to an external receiver to play 5.1 surround? I have tried PowerDVD8 from Cyberlink and WinDVD9 from Intervideo and neither will play 5.1 for me. I am running Vista MCE. I am going crazy here trying to figure this thing out.
