View Full Version : Shock and Awe
What's going on? Is Shock and Awe going on without us knowing it or have we (they) downgraded it because this war is unpopular to the world and even in this country in many circles.
Are "we" taking an easy as compared to the earlier plans? I don't know as of yet. But I assume that world public opinion has a lot to do with this. What do you think?
I think we're taking it easy because of world opinion. I just hope there's not a secret war going on.

I think that it has more to do with the commanders doing what they are paid to do. War cannot be scripted. The "Shock & Awe" attack may or may not have been the original plan, but plans can and do change. As for world opinion, not an issue really as far as the way planning/strategy are concerned. The President as said from the onset that this is a Pentegon operation, not a White house operation. Those in command can and will revise their gameplan as needed to accomplish their mission, and they will do so without consulting the press.

Shock and Awe is not needed at this point, why waste the money with a shock and awe display when troops are having no real problems getting in the country.
If they need it (which I am starting to doubt) then we will see Shock and Awe.

Shock and Awe would be an unnecessary expenditure of expensive ordinance AT THIS POINT IN TIME. However, circumstances can change, and if it is called for, you just might see it.

It may very well be there never was any intention of using this "shock and awe" strategy. It may have been leaked on purpose to scare the Iraqis and make them less willing to fight.
Do we really expect to know what their plans are? We'll probably find out once the war's done.....

I think that it was more of a way to put a little scare into Saddam than anything else. It seems to have worked, read the other post about the Iraqi weblog. The person writing that said that as soon as the air raid sirens went off in Baghdad they thought they would be pounded with bombs but they got the all clear alert after a while. They drove around Baghdad the next day and everything looked fine to them.
