Hello,

I have a CABLE internet and a wireless router, what will I need to purchase to get the On Demand Services? Do I need to purchase 2 Internet Connection Kits still? What is recommended to setup wirelessly? Please make any suggestions on what the best wireless adapter would be and how to setup.

Thanks!

One Linksys WGA54G (ethernet from HR20 to wireless) for each DVR works very well for many. onDemand is free with the DVR monthly fee. Static IP worked best for me too.

The DIRECTV internet kits let you get a network connection over your powerlines, not wirelessly.

You have a few options:

1. Wired - Use standard Ethernet cable from your router to the ethernet port on your DVR. This is the fastest and most reliable method but also is the most difficult if you dont have existing ethernet wiring throughout your house. If your router is in the same room as your DVR, I reccomend this method. Goto monoprice.com and buy a long ethernet cable.

2. Wireless - Wireless is great for laptops, but can be troublesome when it comes to high bandwidth applications. If you are in an area with lots of Wireless interference Video-on-demand downloads may be very slow or on occasion, fail. If you are in an area where wireless works well, then goto Best Buy or Newegg and purchase a bridge (wireless gaming adapter) like the WGA600N. This will connect to your DVR via Ethernet. It will connect to your router via Wireless. You may need to use a computer to configure the adapter for your wireless network.

3. Powerline Adapters - These use your electrical wiring in your home to transmit data. They work well in many situations, but some appliances can cause interference. Overall they work well and do not use your wireless network. You would need to purchase two powerline adapters, one that plugs into your router and one that plugs into your DVR. These are typically plug-n-play meaning they are very easy to setup, plug one into the wall and into your router and the other into the wall and your HD-DVR. You can either purchase adapters directly from DirecTV or something like this Netgear from newegg:

Good Luck,

Powerlines? I'm confused... SO I plug one kit into the HD/DVR, and the power cord into the wall, plug the other into the router in the other room and that works? I don't have to run a CAT5 cable from the router to the HD/DVR?

The Powerline adapters plug directly into the wall. Place one near your router, and connect a cat5 cable from the router to the adapter. Plug the other adapter in near your receiver, and connect a cat5 cable from the adapter to your receiver.

1. Wired connection
2. Powerline

3. Wireless ( DirecTV does not recommend use of wireless )

Go to directv.com, they have online step by step info. for setting up all of the above.

You guys are awesome!!! Thanks for your input...

Do you guys have the powerline adapters? If so, are they fast? Work good?

I have a wireless router. Does it matter if it is a wireless or wired router to use the DTV powerline adapters?
