I have a suggestion...
If anyone is ANTI-AMERICA, if anyone is ANTI-WAR, or if anyone would like to boo our anthem or burn our flag.......
Why don't you go down to ground zero in NYC, stand INSIDE the blasted hole & do it there!

Giving the Yanks a taste - don't like it eh?
Now you will undestand how Canadians feel whenever Islanders and Capitals fans pull this stunt with the Canadian anthem every year during the playoffs - no war necessary
It's rude behaviour - no excuse for it; by fans anywhere
But when a country signs a free trade deal (NAFTA) and then reneges on it with softwood lumber + durham wheat - well I can understand others being annoyed at 2 faced American administration.
BTW, the average American new homeowner pays an average $1000 extra for the privledge of Bush's southern lumber backers.

No doubt, I've been to pleanty of NHL games where people are rude during the Canadian National Anthem. It goes both ways guys....
Respect has to be given by both countries and should not be tied to a war.

John, first of all I agree that booing during the national anthem is not a good thing to do at all. It's total disrespect. As a matter of fact, in some countries you can be arrested and executed for doing something like that.
But I don't agree with lumping the terms anti war and anti American together. There are many of us who are against the war, but we love America nonetheless.
And as for ground zero, I don't see how this relates to anything regarding this war. Osama Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda were responsible for 9-11, not Saddam Hussain.

Iraq = Terrorist "Home Depot" If this action is not taken now, it will have to be taken after some terrorist group who got their stuff from Iraq blows up some other city. (not building---CITY)

I'm not a strong supporter of the war, but I disagree with the actions of the fans in Montreal this week. I thought it was pretty tactless and that there are better ways to display your disagreement with George W.

Well, maybe, but evidence that Saddam has ever organized and executed an attack on us is shady at best. In other words, I pretty much doubt Saddam is a direct threat to us right now, or ever was after the first Gulf War. I have yet to see one terrorist incident in the US which was linked directly to Saddam and Iraq.
Let's face it. Most of the funding for Al-Qaeda comes from Saudi Arabia. Osama and Saddam hate each others' guts. The 9-11 hijackers were mainly Saudi nationals. Iraq has been under sanctions since the Gulf war and has had no money to buy weapons. The weapons inspectors have gone in and have destroyed a great deal of long range weapons.
In GW1 Saddam was launching SCUD's at Israel. Now, he can't even attack Kuwait properly, with nothing but conventional warheads. I therefore don't see how Saddam can be classified as a threat to us, to destroy any city in the United States.
Don't get me wrong, I think Saddam is evil, and should be dealt with in an appropriate manner, but the evidence linking him to 9-11 has been weak at best.
Does anyone expect respectful behaviour at a hockey game, even in peacetime? And if any two places in North America has a lock on rudeness, it would be NYC and the province of Quebec.
Canadians (and some Canadiens) have been and still are our friends. After all, they are simply un-armed Americans with a better health plan.

That particular article on ESPN failed to mention that it was the 2nd straight game in a row where Montreal Canadiens fans embarassed themselves with their poor conduct. It happened in the game prior to the Isles matchup when the NJ Devils and Brodeur shutout Jose Theodore in Montreal as well. James F is right on about it being a two way street with regards to American's booing the Canadien anthem as well. Every team irregardless of where its located has its share of hammerheads. There was an incident in Afghanistan where several Canadien soldiers were killed by American friendly fire which sparked the same outrage and backlash at our national anthem from a lot of Canadien fans last year when US teams faced off against Canadien teams up in the great white north.

I am shocked, SHOCKED, to hear that fans at a hockey game (of all places) would be rude! ;)
IMHO, anyone who is secure in his principles and convictions should yawn at folks who disagree. One of our founding tenants is that in a free exchange of opinions, truth will prevail.
On the other hand, it's nice to be courteous. Even if it's true that I'm going gray, I'd rather you didn't point it out to me. :)

And I hope we never see one, and have thousands of more innocent American lives lost, that's why we need to take Saddam out NOW!

Well Hockey fans prove that they don't think...

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Saturday that fans booed during the Canadian national anthem before the Thrashers' NHL game against the Ottawa Senators.
It might have been a response to events from Thursday night, when Montreal fans booed during the U.S. national anthem before the Canadiens' game against the New York Islanders.

But then again there are bunches of good ones out there.

I think the National Anthems should NOT be sung at sporing events, with the exception of the Olympics and other international sporting events. What benefit does singing the national anthem do at a hockey game? Are you more patriotic by doing this? The teams involved are either from the same country or from the contry next door. I think as we get closer to the playoffs thier will be a lot more booing going on, and I don't think this is needed.

The Islanders should get knocked out in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs this year by the Senators. That'll put an end to anthem booing this year.
