We frequently hear of issues with csrs or installers.
Lets start a thread where we were unexpectedly given something by either a CSR or Installer.
I will start.
A friend of mine having hardships called to disconnect a rcvr. The agent offered her $10 off per month instead for 6 months

Some kindness. DirecTV gives away $60 to keep a customer.

If youd bother to read the post you would see that he just called to disconnect a recvr, not his account, so they did not give money to keep a customer. They did give the customer a discount on his bill to cover the cost of the recvr he couldnt pay for any longer and actually gave him more credit a month than what the recvr wouldve cost. Is there anything wrong with that? I mean freakin directv helpin out a customer, what a bunch of con artists! Get real!! The csr helped the customer with exactly what he needed help with and the customer got to keep directv in a room he would otherwise not have had it any longer. I see nothing negative here.
For the most part i got good help and deals from csr's through the years, installers well some good and not so good. The last install went near perfect and i gave him a great tip.All and all been happy through the years.

I called up yesterday about another issue, and while I had the CSR on the phone I asked her what she could do for me as far as the loyal customer promotion. She said that I could get an HD-DVR for 99 bucks. When I asked if she could do better, she got me a free HD DVR with $19.95 shipping charge. Actually it was 99 bucks plus 10 bucks off my bill for 12 months! And I didn't even push her.

my installer gave me 50 feet of RG 6 cable at no charge
Years ago i got a free sd multi switch for a tivo dvr. I still have it, it is screwed to a floor joist in the cellar, some day i will take it apart to see what makes it tic.

Now they should call in a month and disconnect that receiver to save another $5. :)

That is ok. you are pardoned for not understanding.

My brain got into gear for that one. :D
A DNS installer (Jerome), who is also a Navy corpsman, worked diligently
to fulfill a custom install. While he was in my home, he offered to (properly)
dress a wound I had received a few days earlier. He came back later in the
day to check on the install, to redress my injury and gave me his email & cell.

A few years back [4 or 5] we had some financial setbacks right around Christmas time and had gotten behind on the D* Bill. I called to suspend the account until we could get caught up, and the CSR I spoke with zeroed out the bill saying it was a Christmas present from D*.

My installer hooked me up with a 6x8 multi switch, even though I only had a dual tuner DVR and single tuner HD box installed. I am finishing my basement and rerunning all the wiring and wanted it in place for the current expansion (will be adding one or two HD DVRs for the family room in the basement)
Great install and nice guys.

it seems like they used to be nicer before. now in days no agent would do that.

Many moons ago I had asked an installer to give me a 5 LNB dish even though I did not have any HD equipment on my account (I planned to upgrade later).
He did, and he added a Zinwell WB68 multiswitch. When I got my HR20-700 3 months later and hooked it up, it saw the 5 LNB dish and has worked without any problems.
Recently, I asked an installer in my neighborhood for 30' of coax so I could run a second line to my bedroom for a DVR. He gave me the entire spool and only asked that I return the unused portion when I was finished.

Good thread, Curt. And just in time for me to add to it (yeah, I can bitch and moan but I can also praise). I was supposedly getting a $10 x 6 mo. credit, but noticed it had only been applied the first month. I sent an e-mail explaining that the credit had been missing for the last two months and I received a very prompt (within hours) and nice e-mail telling me that I had been retroactively corrected immediately. It was quick, painless, and solved my problem. That's what customer service should be.
