They say someone(s) threw grenades in the command tents. Atleast 2 tents, many injured.

Now they think it may have been an unaccounted for soldier that did it.... it is too early to tell.

That's wouldn't be good. :(

Thats what I saw too. They found him hiding in a bunker. WOW... Must really be messed up....

There was also speculation that it could have been an accident as he could have been playing with the grenade. But, I am sure we will find out soon.

Man I hope this doesn't come out this way. I mean the news reported that there was gunfire as the people came out. Black eye for the news guys if that is the case.

On MSNBC it says they have the American soldier who did it.

That really pisses me off!!

Just shows how little news there is to report. It is getting hard to watch the coverage, nothing new for hours and hours of endless rehashing.

Very sad situation. He is in custody now. They are saying he was missing from his post and that four grenades were also missing. Cracked under the stress?

It shouldn't. You should just hope both the people who are hurt and the young man who MIGHT have done this gets help. This is very sad news all around.

The attacker was a Muslim American.

So?

So maybe it's time to start screening those serving in this operation a bit better.

There's a lot that the Time Magazine reporter that was there isn't being allowed to report on. A criminal investigation is underway.

13 reported injured. 2 are life threatening. :(

Take him out and shoot him. That is what happens during war to people who desert or "frag" their fellow soldiers.

This was a brilliant terrorist attack from the terrorist side. It has the 101st Airborne, one of the most elite of Amierica's infantry divisions, questioning their own soldiers and their individual motives rather than worrying about the mission ahead of them. It will cause uneasieness and uncertainty rather than the cohesion they had been experiencing and they need in order to be successful. If this guy is found guilty of this unbelievable crime, he deserves the harshest punishment afforded under the UCMJ.

Let me just say there is no way a "terrorist" could last long enough in the 101st Airborne to become a SGT and then wait until this happened. They would have screened him out long ago and he sure wouldn't have made SGT. Unlike most countries, in the US we don't discriminate by race or religion right?

Let me just say there is no way a "terrorist" could last long enough in the 101st Airborne to become a SGT and then wait until this happened.Ok, then how did this guy get there? Or do you consider what he did not to be terrorism? If not "terrorism" and he is not a terroist, he still should not have gotten to where he was.

Maybe it's time to start weeding out Wahabe sect members, at least from the current operation under the current circumstances. They are saying that this guy is a member of that sect, just as the 9-11 bombers were. We don't need our soldiers wondering about the allegiances of the guy next to him in the midst of battle. Right?

James_F
03-22-03, 09:24 PM
How the hell do you know he is a sect member. Other than you I have not hear anything about his religion. Where are you hearing this?

James_F

CNN is reporting that he may or may not be muslim. Sources that indicated that he was muslim were based on his last name. No idea if it is muslim or not.

Richard King

Heard it on MSNBC. Fox is now saying there is no independent confirmation.

James_F
03-22-03, 10:10 PM
Seems like its bad reporting to make an assumption like that. But either way I am sadden to hear that the Washington Post is reporting that one of them is now dead because of the attack.

Fox said earlier (and then never mentioned it again, I think due to the security of the war plans) that this soulder was told earlier that night that he would be staying behind when the rest of the troops moved out to go battle.

I can't say if this is true or not, but if its true, then out 101st Airborne are soon going to see action.

I almost wish that any news item should be held for 6-12 hours just so they get the facts straight the first time out without all these little updates that just confuse everyone. Such for the benefit of "Live" news updates.

Well you put 300,000 men over there. A few of them are bound to be insane. The law of averages, some will crack and go crazy.

1. This is a guy who has been reprimanded for insubordination and was getting ready to be sent "back"

2. Too bad, Karl, but the 101st was back to business as usual within an hour after the incident-the fellow is in custody and our boys are getting on with the business at hand(this is what a professional soldier does, btw)-it's a sad turn of events, but certainly not something that's causing the men of the 101st to question themselves, each other, or their mission...

This was an assassination attempt, coordinated between individuals sympathetic in some way to Islamism. The brigade commander and other lead officers were in the one tent, it was not "Resentment" as will be spun later.

The guy is a black Muslim, and depending if he converted in adult life, this is very pertinent. Just as it was pertinent that John Muhammad was a Muslim convert. Black Muslim converts tend to carry over anti-white and sometimes anti-Jewish feelings into their new religion. There it is simply reinforced because they often do not attend moderate mosques but are infected by extremist or Wahabbist imams.

There ain't no coincidence here folks.

So if you are black and Islamic you hate Americans. Nice John... Let just lock them all up in camps. I'm amazed you wrote that.

You are obviously anti-black since you seem to carry resentment to all that are black and Muslim.

I think you better look at what you are so gallantly defending ....

Louis Farrakhan has been converting 1000,s of blacks in and out of prisons for several years with the sole idea of eventually wiping out the white man, so to speak

The vast majority of Muslims, even black muslims that are considered somewhat heretical by many in Islam, obviously are not an enemy of the US. I am sure many black muslims serve well in the invasion force.

James_F

Louis Farrakhan is a criminal and should be put in prison for what he does.

John is saying the same thing. Just replacing white with black muslim.

Then why did you say what you did? There are lots of idiots in our society and we need to rise above their malaise.

Just my thoughts James.

Maybe instead of looking at the fact he is mulsim, why not look at the fact that he was put in a war with questionable values.

It seems he wouldn't be the first Gulf War veteran to turn to treason... (Timothy McVeigh, and the Washington sniper....).

Well war even if you are not on the front lines puts extreme stress on you. My training while helpful never prepared me for being shot at in my CH-46. I know I was able to handle it, but there where people I saw who flipped out over this. It happens with every war and its an unfortunate consequence.
