With the Aljazeeera station broadcasting Iraqi television footage of American POWs, should the coalition take out any means Iraq has of broadcasting television out of the country?

This would be a good thing for the US, a bad thing for the Iraqi people. Like it or not, the Iraqi people (who we claim to be liberating) need to be informed about the war, as it's currently a national disaster for them. One of the first things I learned in disaster preparedness was the need to remain informed.

I have a solution. Let's invade, not destroy, Iraqi TV and we'll broadcast to them.

I think many more have access to radio, and the United States already broadcasts using the same frequency as state radio.

To overpower Iraqi television would be a bit like a conquest, and most are more or less aware of the facts anyways.

It would be better to take it out all together. It's nothing but a tool for propaganda, although it would make it much harder to determine whether or not the likes of Saddam or others are still alive.

Its a tool of the regime we're at war with. Target it!

If it were not government operated and simply a propaganda tool, I'd say leave it alone. However it is simply keeping the Iraqis from knowing the truth - shut it down!

I would wonder what Dish Network would do if Al-Jazeera would have been taken off the air by the war? It is carried in one of their international packs.

Al-J is located in Qatar. To take them out, we'd have to attack Qatar.

We could tell the French that Al-J is hiding truffles and cheese at their studio. That should throw them into politacal loops for a year or so.

Hey, I've got no problem with it. Especially when they keep announcing that pilots have parachuted into the river by Baghdad. They then empty their guns into the river and wind up doing a little fishing only instead of firing those shots in our direction. Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll hit each other in the process. To say nothing of the picture of thousands of Ba'ath people firing weapons at supposedly defenseless pilots. Just makes the US position that much more easier to sell to the rest of the world who are appalled by such disregard of the Geneva Convention. Hmmm, maybe we should use their Rules of Engagement and shoot anyone we capture on the battlefield. I can't believe the rest of the world still defends these yahoos.
