View Full Version : slow channel change on 508
hi, been away from home for a week. left my 508 to record about 20 hours, which it did faithfully. (not like my old DP) I watched most, and erased enough to leave 38 hours plus available. I also counted only 17 timers waiting to record. my problem is that now it takes a long time when changing channels for the info and then video to appear. it was not like this when i left. is there something wrong that anyone knows about that i can do to speed up the channel acquisition time? i knew how to make the DP behave, or at least as much as possible, but this is the first "problem" i have seen with my 508. appreciate any help. I did check my other recvr's, none are pvr, and they are acting normally. thanks

Have your powed off the unit in a while, the 508 is basically a PC, and sometimes needs to be rebooteed.
yes, in fact i keep the 508 off when not in use, just to keep the epg current at the very least.

Hold the front panel power button down for about 5 seconds and it will do a system reboot.
well, i got it down from 9 seconds per video/audio acquisition to 3 seconds. i will try another reboot. thanks all.

Maybe power off (wait a few minutes for drive to power down) and then pull the power cord out of the outlet and then plug in a little later. That is the only true power off (cold boot). If that dosen't work then the reboot issue is a red-herring.
