Nimiq 1 at 91 and now Nimiq 2 at 82 are the two satellites Canadian DBS provider, Bell Express Vu uses. BEV uses the same hardware as Dish Network, so that's why they put in that little blurb in the FAQ.

Is it possible to get ExpressVu with Dish Equipment. (Just Wondering. :) )

With the dish and LNB yes, but with the receiver I don't exactly know anymore. The usual response has always been no, because of differences in the smart cards and serial number of the receivers. But, some folks at AVS have reported they are using a Dish 6000 not a BEV 6000 to receiver HD from Bell. I've never tried it, so I don't know exactly what happens when you hook up a Dish branded receiver to a LNB pointing at 91 or 82.

I just checked their site. There is a collage on the main page that shows some BEV stuff, and it's the same. The pic of the remote is EXACTLY like the one used by DISH, and they have a snippet of the EPG. It looks like a DISH one also with a few minor changes.

I think that BEV using the same stuff like DISH increases the possibility of having BEV channels on Dish Equipment. ??? I am not sure though.

You could say that they use the same hardware and software too. Here is the page on the reciever features:

I used TinyURL.com to make the link smaller.

It has been reported that Bell ExpressVu will not authorize a DISH Network reciever to receive Bell ExpressVU service.

Right. BEV uses the exact same equipment as Dish. However, the receiver serial numbers are split into two different lists, 1) Dish and 2) BEV. One company will never authorize a receiver on the other company's list.

If you want Canadian programing, it can be done by repointing the dish, getting a Canadian address for billing and purchasing a Canadian receiver from BEV. But if BEV ever finds out the receiver is in the US, then they MUST shut it off.

Can you get a penalty or into trouble if you get caught having the receiver in the U.S. ?

I adapted the instructions, found all those download services on 91, put 11 in the transponder box and then powered it off by the front panel and waited a while. It continues to ignore the signal. I thought I would at least see the barker channels, of which one of my favourite news services is at the moment.
It continues to tell me I have the "wrong" sat. Is it because my smart card is authorized by dish network and thus does not wish to talk to Bell Expressvu? Shouldn't it at least display FTA channels if it is whining about encryption?

The software wont auto download like they used to, as pirates were using this ability to get around some ECMs that were tossed up there.

Not to accuse anyone, but if they are using Dish 6000s on BEV, they are hacking, or have a BEV sub on a cheaper lower end IRD, and have cloned its ID to the 6000. (i have done this on my BEV active 2700 to a dish 4700) no other way around it. The R00 and S00 numbers are from 2 different batches, and the providers wont activate the others.

Not to mention an unaltered smart-card from dish will not work on BEV, the keys are totaly different for the providers, and BEV wouldnt even be able to get into a Dish Smart card to activate it.

So when we used to be able to point our dish to the BEV satellite to get the couple of barker channels and the news channel FTA we are not able to do that now at all with our receivers?
