View Full Version : Connecting routing for ReplayTV and Dish 6000 HD
Here we go. Using an HDTV, (RCA). Dish 6000 with both add ons. Bought ReplayTV and need help in the configuring or routing of cables.
Currently everything goes through a Harman Kardon AV7000. The HDTV works great, but knowing that the ReplayTV is SD, what would be the best way to route the cables so that I can record the SD on Replay, adn watch HDTV as well. It seems sort of simple, but I can't quite figure it out yet.
TV has three inputs from S vid to component. RCA 38310 model tube 38" set.
Appreciate any and all answers.:D
The 6000 cannot simultaneously output SD and HD. As such, you'll need to choose SD to pass the A/V stream into the Replay or HD if you want to watch the HD signal live.
I don't believe that any satelite receiver can output SD and HD at once, but I know that a Samsung ATO HD STB can. It is possible that the newer Samsung can, but they are for DirecTV, not Dish.

As what was already stated, you can't get both SD and HD outputs at the same time. I have a similar system, except our HDTV is a Toshiba 65HX81 and my AV receiver is Pioneer. The AV receiver has component switching (2-in, 1-out) and the TV has two component inputs. We have found that connecting the ReplayTV unit's component output provides a better picture. I'm not sure exactly WHY it is better, considering the input is only S-video, but it definately is better. I run the component output of the DVD player and the ReplayTV to the AV receiver and the HD component output of the 6000 directly to the TV. Our ReplayTV units are Model 4040s that have a VGA-type connector on the back. Using a breakout cable, this will convert to YPbPr.
I happen to have TWO Dish 6000s... one is connected to the ReplayTV and one is full-time to the TV. The reason I have two is because my first unit blew a power resistor and I thought it was toast, so I bought another one (both purchased off eBay.) Just after purchasing the 2nd, Dish said they would replace the first. So now I have 2. I like recording the SD output of HDTV programming on the ReplayTV because it has better PQ and it is widescreen, albeit letterboxed. I can set the TV to Wide 2, and it will provide me the original aspect ratio... just not as great PQ as HDTV. This is what I'm having to deal with, until the new HDTV PVR is released.
