View Full Version : How are 72.5 and 95 fed into the stack plan?

How many transponders is DirecTV using at each of 72.5 and 95, and how do the signals from 72.5 and/or 95 get fed into the stack plan (downline frm the multiswitch?

Typically, the coax bandwidth is essentially used up between Ka lo, Ka hi, and Ku, passed as 99lo/101/99hi or 103lo/110&119/103hi.

Is there enough unused bandwidth in the 110&119 combination (DirecTV only has 14 transponders between 110 and 119) to add in 72.5 and/or 95 feeds into the stack plan in teh same band along with 110 & 119? Or do they have another solution?

the 72.5 will be moved to the 103 by the end of August. I'm assuming the 95 won't be too far away.

72.5 and 95 are not in the 13/18 v 22MHz tone/no tone plan
DiSEqc commands are sent to the Zinwell multiswitch to open the Flexports.

So they do not get fed down at the same time along with the other feeds? What bandwidth do they occupy? for example 950-1450?

I'm not certain but yes , I believe that to be true.

That's only on WB68/WB616. On 4*4 and 4*8 switches it is 18V w 22KHz tone.

So on those switches it is fed as a another set of even transponders along with the 110 and 119 evens?

No, this is for locations where only 101 and 95 is used. So that is for worldirect. If you need 110/119 and 72.5 or 95 you need a flexport switch.

I did give wrong info though. 72.5 uses both 13v and 18v w 22Khz tone if installed on 4*4 and 4*8 switches.

We can only hope..

I would really like to do away with our international dish..

And then does Echostar pick up those 72.5 transponders to go with their 72.7s?

72.5 is leased from a canadian company so once the lease is returned it could end up going to Dish.

I think it is chances are very unlikely that will happen.

I don't really know if it's likely or not. I do know DirecTV is leasing that capacity from a canadian company and is making moves to eliminate usage of it. Once they no longer need I don't see them continuing to pay the lease for it when they aren't using it. Assuming that DirecTV does allow their lease to end when they don't need it any more this would fit into exactly how Dish has been expanding their capacity by leasing space from foreign countries which is why so much of it is so far out. Even if this does happen we don't know what sort of time frame we are talking yet. First step would be mirroring the current locals on 72.5 to 99/103 but then they need to start swapping dishes and receivers for their current customers before they can cut off 72.5 completely.

or will the 72.5w locals go to 110w or 119w?

I believe that all 72.5 markets have had Ka/Ku dishes installed on all new customers for at least a year. It would hence be mainly IRD swaps.

Doubtful. See my post above. :D

Yep. Been hating putting up a Ka and a 18" on every install since last July.
On a wb68 72.5 goes into flexport 1, and 95 goes into flexport two if you're using both.

4 markets by the end of this month, the rest are coming. 95 will be on the next sat (d12) from what I understand.

72.5 and 95 are not in the 13/18 v 22MHz tone/no tone plan

72.5 uses a 22kHz tone. So does 95. They both work fine with just a 101 LNB on a old cheapy 4x4 multiswitch (not at the same time though).

When we used to put up 2 18"s and a 95, 101 would go into the 101 ports on a 6x8, 72.5 would go into the 22kHz ports, and 95 got flexport 1.

Many many different possible configurations.

then they need to start swapping dishes and receivers for their current customers before they can cut off 72.5 completely.
Yeah that part is going to suck....:eek2:

Yes, both are 950-1450mHz

95W needs a special linear FSS Ku LNB.

Wrong !!! No upgrades, nor contact here about upgrades in my home in Peoria/Bloomington :nono:

Seems to me, using 72.5 and/or 95 with any of the HD dishes must be done via flexports. 110/119 take the spots that 72.5 or 95 would use. (And is sorta indicated at Zinwell's site.)

BTW, the dishes themselves don't use the tone. It is the switches that do. ;)

72.5 is leased by DIRECTV in exchange for DIRECTV leasing the satellite itself (DIRECTV 1R) to same Canadian company. The FCC commentary said it has no problems with such a lease--for the short-term. I don't think Dish will pick up any transponders there.

Cheers,
Tom

Actually, Mertzen is correct. All installs done during the last year should have had a Ka/Ku and a 72.5 installed. Since 72.5 will be around for a while longer, D* is not in a big hurry.

There have been many DVR - MP4 upgrades here to replace Tivos, which are not compatible with Ka signals. These are combined with installing KaKu dishes while we are there.

Hope you're not expecting them to call you up and say "Hey we need to install a new dish for you".... not gonna happen. If you get any type of equipment upgrade work order, you get the new dish.

He did say all NEW customers. Existing customers are not being upgraded yet, unless they order some other equipment in which case there will be an upgrade at the same time..
