Does anybody really use them ? Every 6 months I scan through them to see whats on, listen for a few seconds and go back to regular TV. To me it seems like a big waste of channel space.

One man's trash is another man's treasure... I don't listen to them either, but "big waste" is probably an exaggeration when you consider the audio-only channels don't take much space compared to a video channel... so it's not like we are missing out on some new video channel because of all the music ones.

Absolutely I use them! I use both the CD and Sirius channels a lot, especially on weekends.

Frankly, it's another reason I could never go back to cable. The Music Choice channels on my local system are sub par IMO.

Yup, Sirius Alternative Rock :joy:

First, I listen to them.

Second, they don't use up that much space compared to video channels, particularly HD channels.

Third, it's one of my basic DBS rules: Everything I watch is vital and important, and everything I don't watch is a waste of bandwidth. Except that it's vital and important to the guy next to me. ;)

They use so little bandwidth, Dish can use them to "fill up" a transponder - so that the entire bitstream is being used.

(Not sure with the newer stat-muxes how they fit in, but IIRC, originally, they were "filler" in the bitstream...)

I have about 8 I listen to on a regular basis and the new age one on Sirius is a great 'babysitter' for my dogs when I am not home.

I often find something interesting to listen to when browsing through those CDs and Sirius channels.

My favorite is channel 6037 (Sirius The Strobe - Classic Disco) becuase it often plays some memorable and nostalgic pop/dance music from late 70s through early 90s. It reminds me of the days that I used to listent to local FM radio

I'm awaiting them updating these channels to HD Audio so they'll be added to my TurboHD Gold package.

I absolutely use the Sirius Channels.
In fact I have a weekly timer for Radio Bam on Sirius Faction 28 (ch. 6028)
And they don't use that much space. At one point, I had 80 one hour episodes
on my 508 and still had another 30 video programs stored on there too.

I have Hard Attack, Faction and Octane in my main favorites list in case
there is nothing on regular TV, I'll find something I like on the Sirius channels.

I use them quite a bit actually. I love Fuse because it's a nice alternative to MTV and they play more rock than MTV does. I really don't care much for MTV or MTV 2, but some of VH1's reality shows (or should I say Celebreality?) I admit draw me in. LOL. If anything, Dish can afford to expand the offerings. There are plenty of people who appreciate Gospel and Gospel Music TV from Sky Angel and Gospel Music Channel (on DirecTV) seem good. VH1 Soul would be a very welcome addition to a lot of people I know. I REALLY hope Dish considers Soundtrack Channel too because I'm a fan of Thomas Newman, James Horner, Randy Edelman and some of these movie composers. They are even launching in HD in the future, so another unique HD channel would be nice too. Even CMT Pure Country would be a welcome addition to a lot of people I know. CMT has become the country music version of MTV and VH1, and Great American Country plays more of the older hits than newer music it seems. There's certainly an argument IMO for music channel offerings to expand GREATLY.

I live in the radio-free zone of a radioastronomy observatory so the music channels on Dish are all that I get. Can't even pull in local public radio.

I would be one of those who very much appreciates the "wasted" bandwidth of the music channels. Especially the holiday channel at Christmas.

They are talking about the "audio only" music channels, not mtv,fuse,vh1 ,etc

Wow, I guess I was wrong. More people than I thought listen to them. I wasn't talking about extra bandwith, I was just talking about the sheer number of audio channel numbers. While browsing through all channels, it takes forever to get through them.

Boy are you wrong. I listen to the classical and opera channel all the time. Only turn on the TV during the daytime hours for football, Nascar, and news/opinion shows after 3PM.

Opera, live from the Met in the winter time is fabulous. :D

Take them away. They fraudulently add to channel count and waste valuable bandwidth. lf I wanted sat radio, I would buy it.

Yep, the music channels are one of the things I miss about my SD package (as I have HD Absolute). Great for putting on while I work around the house and can't watch anything. I actually wish they would add more, namely the Sirius NPR feeds. It would be awesome to be able to record Car Talk, A Prairie Home Companion and Science Friday to my DVR. I would also hope they could make them an add on for us HD only subs.

While browsing through all channels, it takes forever to get through them. That's what Favorites lists are for. Create a list that includes all of your vital channels and none of your bandwidth wasters. You can get to what you want that much faster, with less opportunity to be offended. :)

We listen to them. They're great for parties (don't need to keep changing cd's) as well as to listen to while outside bbq'ing or gardening (we live on acreage so we can crank up the outside speakers). Lots of choices so, for our eclectic tastes (classical to heavy metal), they work well! We live out in the country and between counties so radio doesn't come in very well.

I am not offended by the music channels at all. I asked a question to which most people that responded, use the audio channels more than I thought. Yes, I have a favorites list. I can even turn on my DVR with the fancy err R .E. M. O. T. E. control. I think thats what they call it.

Sorry about Nascar. I only began following it a couple years ago. Grows on you I guess. I quit listening to the 97x stations when we got Sirius and actually just clean forgot they were there.
I see now that by looking at the titles you wouldn't even know there was a few classical ones. Intermezzo and Ensemble, why don't they call them Classic Instrumentals etc.?
Anyway, nice area we live in here in No Cal.

I think more people should listen to classical music. Maybe would calm a few down a bit. Relaxes me.

You've obviously never heard of the 'classical music riots'.

The first playing of The Rite of Spring caused a big riot in Paris.
Of course that was 95 or so years ago. ;)

I was ignoring this thread, but just in case someone from E* is counting, I like the music channels, particularly Sirius. E Street Radio gets an hour or two of play in my house most days. Other music channels are used for background music quite often. Since I run audio through a seperate A/V receiver, I don't even have to turn the TV on.

Ditto. I have a Crane FM transmitter connected to one pair of audio out (rca jacks) one the 722 and transmit the music to any and all FM receivers in the house. Do the same for internet music stations.

I like music, whether I had Dish, DirecTV, or Time Warner, the music channels offered were always important to me. It wasn't a huge factor, but it was a factor none the less, two years ago when I started thinking about dropping DirecTV and going back to TW, the music channels came into play. I already had three XM subscriptions, by DirecTV removing Music Choice in favor of XM, that took away some of my listening choices.

I love having 181 channels of commercial free music between XM, Sirius and Music Choice. While I didn't like Muzak, I listened at to it a lot when I had Dish, until I got my first XM subscription back in 2993.

I use an old VCR's tuner to run satellite audio to my stereo (rather than run a TV when I want to hear the audio channels).

I love 60's oldies, however the best channel for them (iirc it's ch 933) is only availabe in the Top-250 and it's mono (so are many of the oldies). I get to hear this channel in a local restarunt that has MUZAK service.

Sirius 6 is OK, but I could do without the DJ's (with the exception of Cousin Brucie). Jukebox Gold is OK but it's "date range" is too wide for my taste (keep it '63-'73 please).

I listen tp SIRIUS 6014, Classic Vinyl all the time. When I'm outside I pipe it to my outdoor Polk Atrium's. I've gotten more compliments and thanks from atleast 4 different neighbors this summer that they love my music and really enjoy listening to it whenever they are outside.

If you live in Nashville and like Alternative Rock there is no other choice but these stations. I don't drive enough to get Sirius in the car, 5 minutes to work and 5 minutes home. Actually my very favorite is Top Alternative on AOL. Now if that were avalible in my car, I'd buy it.
