View Full Version : How do most people roof mount their OTA antennas?

Before my house remodel I used a vent pipe bracket for my Channelmaster 4228 on my one-story home...seemed to work fine (no major storms tend to occur here)...once my house is done it'll have a second story...on paper this is very exciting as my OTA reception should improve some by having it up higher...problem is it doesn't look like it'll be as easy to find a well-placed vent pipe to attach it to (let alone climbing up onto the top of a two-story house :girlscrea
So is a tripod with adjustable legs the way to go? Or something else? I guess with a tripod I would screw it into the roof on one side (on a sideslope)? There is the WAF of course so on the top point of the roof near the front of the house would not be an option ;)
How about a chimney? That's an option, although I don't know if there are housing/safety codes that would prohibit it in your area ...
Do you have a nice open attic at all?
Ours is mounted inside our attic which works quite well.

Sorry guys...0 for 2...no chimney due to having a gas fireplace...and very limited attic due to using trusses for the roof framing...
We actually have trusses as well, put up a large antenna and sorta built it around the trusses and bent it a bit in some places.
But if it wont work it wont work ;)

Hmmm...I'll have to look a little closer at how much space is there...I don't know what antenna you have either...the CM4228 takes up a decent amount of space...
You could try a pair of these antenna mast wall mount clamps (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062035&cp=&sr=1&origkw=antenna+hardware&kw=antenna+hardware&parentPage=search) up near the peak of the roof line. I've seen these at Lowe's as well. All you need is a 5' or 10' mast section for the CM4228.

A antenna/dish installation specialist installed a channel master 4228 for me on my roof. He used a satellite dish style mounting bracket/pipe with the pipe plumb and simply attached the dish to that. The base is simply screwed directly to the roofing. works great.

My antenna is like this actually:

(not that exact model, but similar).
With the CM4228, if you can get it the right direction, you could run it with the trusses and maybe be in luck.
