LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Walt Disney Co. said Friday that the rate increase it requested from EchoStar Communications Corp. for its ESPN Classic channel would not have required the satellite broadcaster to raise subscriber rates any more than it had already planned.
Disney's comments came in response to a statement Wednesday by EchoStar Chairman Charlie Ergen, who said EchoStar would raise rates for its DISH Network satellite television service by $1 per-subcriber, per-month, in March, and said the increase might have been as much as $2 had EchoStar kept ESPN Classic.
