Very minor issue, but it has been this way since HD channels were turned on:
Channel(s) affected: 17
Date: Since prior to Feb 2007.
Time: N/A
Description of Issue: If you pull up the guide and move left, you get a brief description of the local channel. Channel 17 shows the following:
NBC television services from WTVD-TV DT 17 Raleigh-Durham, NC.
The callsign is incorrect (and probably copied from the above channel 11). Text should read:
NBC television services from WNCN-TV DT 17 Raleigh-Durham, NC.
Just a typo on the call sign.

Anyone else notice lip synch issues on WRAL's 11 PM news? I usually have to watch the OTA feed to be able to watch.
I have noticed that WRAZ FOX 50 10pm news has awful audio issues
I have noticed that WRAZ FOX 50 10pm news has awful audio issuesCould you be more specific?
I just noticed this thread so that is the only reason I'm posting so late. Channel 11 WTVD has horrible lip sync issues and has for the last day or two. It's occurring right now as I type this.

I am having the same issues with WTVD HD in Raleigh with horrible sync issues. Most of the time it's in the AM. Not only bad sync issues... but the audio has bad artifacts kind of like a CD skipping when it's dirty. I have only seen this on WTVD HD channel.

Yep, I'm getting it too. The audio glitch sounds like the noise in the Matrix when an agent takes over a person's body. The audio doesn't sync with the video either, it seems to lead the related video by about a quarter-second. I see it on both of my receivers (DVR/non-DVR). Of note, the video feed seems fine, with no artifacting like a signal drop typically causes.

I had that same sound issue last while watching a recording of Monday's One Tree Hill from WLFL. I wonder whom from DBSTalk is taking down this information?
WTVD 11 was having major audio cut out problems on monday evening. Only other issue we notice is lip sync issues at times on WRAL 5 news.

I am hearing it now watching World news tonight. It is so bad I had to switch to the SD feed.

WTVD was better during the early morning local news on Wednesday. I thought that the problem had been solved, but by that evening's 18:00 news, it was back just as bad as before. FWIW, these are not intermittent glitches; they occur every ten/fifteen seconds. It's enough to make one not watch the channel or go OTA.

Anyone else having no audio on Fox50 and digital glitching every 8-10 seconds on their HD feed? Been doing that since at least 3pm this afternoon; had audio glitching this morning as well. I called DirecTV and sent an email to Fox50.
My son complained about no audio on 50 WRAZ about 8;20pm during Bones on his HR20-700. I checked my HR20-100 and its also in run silent mode. I suggested closed caption, then he remembered OTA, for what its worth there's sound.

Well, audio is back, but we're still experiencing the audio glitches every 3-5 seconds, just like yesterday morning. Sure hope someone at DirecTV is working on the issue. If you're in the DMA and experiencing these problems, please call DirecTV and report it. That's the only way to get someone out there to solve the problem.

Just a quick update. Got an email from the engineer at Fox50 stating that DirecTV swapped out some piece of equipment overnight last night. When I told him that the issue was still ongoing, he rang them up again. By 2pm this afternoon, DirecTV told him that they found the issue and it has been corrected. As far as I can tell, everything seems to be back to normal.
Big thanks to the Fox50 engineer who has the super secret DirecTV "Hey, I'm the chief engineer and you're messing with my signal" phone number! :)

I'm watching WTVD 11 right now and there is a issue with slight lip sync.
The last couple of weeks have been terrible on WTVD 11 with lip sync. On Extreme Home Makeover last night it was like watching an old film that forgot to put subtitles in. Is anyone else have problems with 11?

My recording of Boston Legal from last night didn't have any sync issues. Did it clear up before 10pm?
In the past, I have seen issues with TVD. The one time I caught it live, I switched over to the HD feed on cable and saw the exact same sync issue. Haven't caught it again since that time.

I have been seeing pixelation on WTVD lately.
last night sunday night football multiple audio/video freezes finally had to switch over to OTA. I also recently lost my NBC and ABC network feeds and switched all recording to the locals instead and am noticing more pixelation, audio/video syn and overall issues much more than when I had the national feeds out of NY
Every morning I turn to ch 17 and get these breaks and buzz in the audio. I am also noticing alot of minor glips in recordings off CBS and NBC mostly. I have started tuning to the OTA channels for news versus the DTV feeds.
Channels Affected : WRAL 5 and WNCN 17. Both channels showing numerous 771 errors on all 4 receivers in the home.
Date and Time: 12/12 at 7AM
Transponder readings seem different but on 101, 119 and 110 seemds normal readings of high 90s etc

Just FYI - those channels are coming in fine for me in Rky Mt. We do expect some loss of channels this week as WRAL does their antenna change. But that should only happen between 9am and 4pm. (and will, supposedly, take 17 off the air completely)

And here (http://dtv.myncblogs.com/2008/12/08/programming-alert/) is the official information about future outages as WRAL updates their tower. This is from the WNCN NBC17 blog:
You may know by now reading this blog, that we share space on the DTV tower with WRAL, WRAZ, WLFL, and WRDC Digital antennas. WRAL has to remove their temporary antenna to install a new antenna for February. This means all the stations must shut down while the workers are on the tower during the daytime hours for safety reasons. This will not affect most Time-Warner customers fed by fiber, but will impact DirecTV and Dish Network as well as smaller systems.
This shutdown affects both our analog and digital signals for WNCN. The other station’s analog signals will not be affected since they are on different towers. The work should be completed in about a week.
We appreciate your patience and understanding while the work is going on, and this should be the last outage until after February.
We will be off the air on these dates and times: (Subject to weather conditions, etc)
12/17 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
12/18 9:00 Am - 3:00 PM
12/19 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
12/20 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
12/21 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
12/22 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
12/23 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
12/24 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
12/25 No Scheduled Shut Down

According to WRAL (http://www.wral.com/news/news_briefs/story/4309801/), we will have another DTV soft-test on Thursday, Jan 15th at 6:25pm and 7:30pm. While we know the DirecTV HD locals will come in fine, this would be a good chance to see if the SD DirecTV locals have been converted from analog reception to digital. IIRC, the list of SD conversions floating around the forum indicated that Raleigh was scheduled for this week (after being delayed in December).
Has anyone had problems with ths show 24 on WRAZ (50) showing up with lots of artifacts. Looks like it's being broadcast at 480 instead of 720 or 1080. But when HD commericals come on it shows up nice and clear again. I caught the tail end of House right before 9pm and the start of 24 and it looked clear. This was the 2nd week in a row that it has looked that way.

I have 24 recorded but haven't watched it yet. I'll take a look. If you would describe the artifacts as "film grain", that is a change that Fox did a couple of weeks ago nationally. Something called 'edge enhancement'.
Either way, when I get a chance to watch 24 today, I'll check back in.
Seeing if anyone else has serious lip sync issues with WTVD channel 11 especially during Good Morning America. My wife watches it before leaving for work and it's so bad I can't even look at the TV.

I watched WTVD last night and switched to it this morning (around 8am ish) and did not find any sync issues. I speficially waited until the GMA feed came on and everything looked fine to me.
If it happens again, check the SD version of WTVD and see if it has the same issue.

In the local channel lookup feature at DirecTV.com it says that WUNC is in HD now. I'm going home from work soon, and am going to check it out to see if it's accurate. I checked because of a thread re: New Bern, NC market getting their HD PBS.

WRAL dropping off the air randomly late at night circa mid-July?
I've noticed this for several nights now: beginning somewhere in the span of 0230 to about 0430, WRAL will drop off the air for an extended period. I still get WTVD fine, and the Guide still shows scheduled programming for WRAL's time slot. Is this WRAL, or is DirecTV fumbling the signal somehow? I don't have an antenna hooked up, so I can't check to see if OTA is gone too. I'm not necessarily actively watching the screen at the time, so they could be briefly displaying a message like "we're doing testing and will be back on air in XX minutes". Tonight they were off-air during what would normally be their 0305 rebroadcast of local news, which is what I'm generally trying to watch at that hour.
Also, been getting bad pops in audio on WRAZ 50 between 7:00 and 8:00 (Two and Half Men). This is only on my HR20-700 reciever. All the rest are SD receivers.

I'm glad to know...I wonder if TWC had the same issue. I tried to switch to my cable DVR only to discover it didn't record anything and my play list is GONE...so much for having a backup...

I think it was a DirecTV MPEG4 encoder issue. My R-15 in the bedroom recorded the SD DirecTV feed last night and it was fine.

It could be...I have a non-DVR DirecTV box in the bedroom and FOX has the same issue there. Thanks.

Yeah I had the same issues and it was only Fox having the trouble and even more so if I watched the SD feed it was fine.
I was pretty dang close to calling WRAZ and telling them to get on their crap but I guess with it being HD issue only it was probably a DirecTV problem...

Who do we need to contact? I would think that at least 1 of the engineers watched the HD feed on DirecTV...any ideas?

I'm having problems receiving OTA channel 4.1 in the Raleigh area. This would be the primary HD channel for WUNC. I am using a HR22 w/AM21 and all other local channels are coming in with 95-100% signal strength. I can get channels 4.2, 4.3, and 4.4 without problem and 100% signal strength. When tuned to 4.1 I receive the following message...
Searching for signal on the off-air tuner (771)
In the setup, signal strength is 0, but yet 4.2 - 4.4 is 100%
I called DirecTV Technical Support and after that telephone call, I'm about ready to drop DirecTV. It used to work, but hasn't worked now for a few months and I've just been living with it.
I've tried resetting the receiver multiple times. But nothing I've done has brought back 4.1 (WUNC-HD)
Anyone have any ideas? Anyone with an AM21 successfully receiving 4.1 WUNC-HD?

Seems like every evening during the nightly news the audio breakups are making channel unwatchable, switch to OTA and do not see same audio breakups, however seems to now be a constant issue on local NBC17.

I haven't watched much of NBC17 in the past few weeks because everything has been in repeats. However, I did tune across it this evening at 5:30 and heard the audio glitches you were mentioning. I emailed NBC17 engineering and got a message back that he emailed DirecTV this evening to look into the issue. Hopefully, it will be resolved shortly.
