Why does this happen? And how can it be fixed? Its only happening on WTVF as far as I know.
It must be either WTVF's feed of the show or how D* is re-transmitting it; at least I know now that it is not just me seeing it.

Receiver : HR20-700
Channel : CBS WTVF (5)
Date : 9/16/08
Time : 11 - 11:30 AM CT
Description of Issues : Tried to view "Talk of the Town".Noticed alot of picture freezing and blocking artifacts. This went on for approx. half of the running time of the program. This program is a live local show that broadcasts every weekday from 11 - 11:30 AM CT at the WTVF studio in Nashville. If I knew which sat to check for our local channels,I would check the signal strengths at this time.
I sent Diagnostics Key 20080916-2583 in to DirecTV while this was going on.
EDIT : At 11:24 AM CT,the PQ was unwatchable,to say the least. So much picture freeze and blocking on the screen that the screen went completely green for a few seconds, before coming back on to the same picture freeze and blocking.
7:54 PM CT. 10/11/08

Looks like it just "bit the dust".

Receiver: HR21-700
Channel(s) Affected: WTVF CBS 5
Date: 12/4/08
Time: ~7:20 p.m.
Description of Issue: Audio dropout of a second or so duration, not accompanied by any visual artifacts or distortion during tonight's Survivor.
EDITED TO ADD: Happened again, same receiver, same date & channel, this time at around 8:44 p.m. during CSI:, and accompanied by the now-imfamous "Brrrrip!" sound. *sigh* I was really hoping they'd licked this issue here over the last few weeks.

LameLefty, don't know if this helps you or not but I've had communications with the chief engineer of our local CBS station and starting a few weeks ago he's had nothing but problems with the audio on the CBS network feed. He finally got to the point to locking the network receive hardware into DD5.1 all the time to stop the problems (which means that now DD2.0 audio have voices coming from all speakers, very distracting). Last time I talked to him he was still trying to get the network to figure out what's wrong with the feed.

The video has been "glitching" at times too, don't know if that was a problem on the network side or WTVF's side picking up the satellite feed, my signal levels are fine, it looked like a "hard" error.
I just noticed another "hard" error during the two and half men commercial, I am watching the game online and it is not happening on the web feed.

I wasn't watching very closely after around the middle of the third quarter but during the time I was watching I did not see any visual artifacting or glitches. However, after the game was over my wife and I were watching a CSI: NY repeat recorded a few days ago (I think it was one of the ones they show on weekends to fill time after sporting events) and noticed another "Brrrip!" - I don't remember exactly when it was recorded and my wife is watching a DVD right now so I can't check.

The only signal strength you need to watch for currently in the Nashville market for local HD channels is 99(s) transponder 17, which is carrying our Big Four HD locals. Transponder 18 is carrying four more test feeds as placeholders for channels 8 (PBS), 30 (MyNetwork TV) and 58 (CW), along with channel 22 (PBS out of Cookeville). When those will go live and show up in our Guides as HD channels is up in the air however.
Anyway, if your signals are good on 17 and 18 (and they are) it's not a signal strength issue. As you can see reading up the list of Nashville issues, almost all of them involve WTVF, the CBS affiliate.

Just heard the MPEG4 audio "Brrrriiip!" issue again for the first time in about a week on WTVF channel 5 here in Nashville during the Titans-Steelers game at 12:41 p.m. CST. A second instance occurred at 12:53 p.m.
Query to those in the know (e.g., Doug): should I still be reporting these as issues?
Channel 5 WTVF HD signal went out during the storms tonight, just showing the slide now.

WZTV Channel 17
When I turned on the TV at around 4:50 p.m. CST and continuing, there are fairly bad MPEG4 audio "Brrrriips" going on, at least once a minute but often several times within a few seconds of each other Some glitches are worse than others, mere stutters, but others are almost as bad as they get. Duration is generally short, under a second. These are NOT accompanied by visual artifacts or distortion.

WZTV FOX 17
The pre-race show before the Daytona 500 yesterday had several instances of the "Brrrrrip" sound.
Tuned to the Hot Pass channels for the race.
WTVF CBS 5
Hearing the "Brrrip" sound again during The Price Is Right currently, between 10-11AM CT today.
•Receiver: HR20-100
•Channel(s) affected: CBS - WTVF/DT (5)
•Date: Last 2-3 weeks
•Time: Various Times both local and national broadcasts
•Description of Issue: During local and national feeds, the sound will randomly break up and sometimes the picture will briefly freeze. It does not matter if the showing is local or national. Checked receiver signal, and all sat transponders are in the 95+ range. This only happen on this channel because I have not ssen or heard of the same on the other HD LiLs and my brother at another location along with my parents at their location said they have been hearing the same issue on their receivers.

Channel: 17 WZTV, Fox MPEG4 local
MPEG4 audio artifacts ("Brrriiips") are terrible this afternoon right now, as bad as they've ever been if not worse. There are occurrences at least every 10 seconds, often many within 1 - 3 seconds before a short 4 - 6 second pause. It's awful.
I don't know if these threads are being monitored by Directv, but I hope so. :nono:

WKRN,channel 2,the ABC affiliate has had some weird video issues going on for the last 20-30 minutes.
Alot of colors flashing/flickering all over the TV screen.
Found this issue while tuning into Wheel of Fortune.
The program airs 6:30-7PM CT weekdays on this channel.
It is not an issue with the TV.
All other channels I tune to are working just fine.

Our local FOX affiliate WZTV channel 17 is terrible with audio issues tonight - multiple dropouts, skips and brrrriiips every minute, sometimes several within a single 5 - 10 second period. I tried to contact the station but their website doesn't list an address for station engineering. It's been going on for hours. :nono:

Yep...the brrriiipps have been terrible and still are going on. I read somewhere that it was a hardware issue with Fox...but jeez...it has made the channel unwatchable at times.

Having audio synch and stutter issues on Fox 61 HD out of Hartford watching today's Pat's vs Panthers game. This issue has been going on for a few months now. I have had some recordings of House and other shows that were totally unwatchable with 2-3 second audio synch issues and stuttering every 10 seconds or so. Felt like I was watching a dubbed, foreign language version of the show. I do not have these issues with the OTA signal (but do have signal strength issues with OTA which is why I need the sat version).
We had these same issues a few years back when DTV first carried the local fox HD station, but they seemed to have that fixed after about 6 months or so. It's now back in spades. DTV, please get this fixed for good and soon.
WNAB 58 HD had alot of pixelating and strange static noise from the left channel tonight during the new episode of Smallville.

WTVF Channel 5, local CBS affiliate
Last night during prime time there were a couple instances of audio stutter that were pretty serious. It was like the old "Woody Woodpecker" or "Brrriiip" problems of the past, but instead of a continuous brrriiipping sound, there were a series of several distinct sharp sounds which were both very loud and separated from one another by maybe a second or so. It was repeatable on trickplay, so it was definitely a station issue rather than a software issue. This occurred on a couple of different occasions in several different shows.

Channel 4 WSMV HD is breaking up quite a bit during the hockey game today. I have no problems with OTA or any other DTV HD channels. Anyone else having this problem today?
ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC locals out this morning (7-28) for at least an hour.

Anybody getting audio dropouts during nationally televised programming (i.e., primetime as an example) on CBS, WTVF? I'm getting them repeatedly during nationally televised broadcasts, but when they switch to local programming such as the local news, the dropouts stop.
All other channels are fine. Anyone seeing this?
