Channel 4 is all jittery this morning. It is fine OTA though. When I first turned on an H20 receiver, I was getting the multi-switch error. I never saw that before. I reset but it said the same thing.
Then I changed channels and the others seemed ok but going back to 4 yielded the jittery video and choppy, at times audio as well. I went to check it on an HR20and I saw the same jittery video and choppy audio.
Yes, I saw this. WNBC-4 HD NY has issues... jumpy/jittery video.
I'm seeing the same thing with Channel 4 WNBC.
Jittery-almost a strobe light effect. There are times the video freezes then catches up. The news crawl on the bottom is very jittery as well.
Audio and Video is out of sync even when video doesn't seem jittery.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I was getting close to calling in after seeing that "multi-switch error" on the H20. It's funny how the problem also spoofed the HR20-700 as I just saw into a "Call Extension 721 error: You are not subscribed to this channel". Changing channels and going back to 4 brought back the choppy feed.
Hopefully they can get this resolved soon.

On Tuesday and Wednesday mornings (Sep 30 and Oct 1) Craig Ferguson's Late Late Show has not appeared on any of the NYC local CBS channels (2, 80). Letterman ends and then the screen goes black. On the Sep 30 show DTV eventually put up a screen saying "We're aware of the problem....." but it happened again the next nite. Every other channel works fine, and there is no 771 or other errors.
This has been happening on my HD DVR, so I'm not sure if it also occurs on the standard def boxes. Has anyone else seen this problem?
Sorry David, I don't watch that show so I don't know if it's been happening.
As for the NBC issue, I wonder if the HD Locals moving to different SATs as per this thread: http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=140821&page=3 are at the root of this problem.
Just took a quick peek and NBC seems to be fine now. No noticeable jitter. /steve
FYI: 80, 82, 86 and 88 distants still work on my Hughes E86.

I can confirm that my HR21's recordings of Conan at 12:35 lately have been odd...at EXACTLY the 1am mark....they go black. In weeks past, the "card" would come up (as you said) mentioning "We're aware of the problem...". But so far this week it just goes black. And, on Tues at 3:05 the Conan re-run had a black screen for 55 minutes...but this AM's 3:05 re-run didn't even record. In the To Do List, it was one of those undescriptive canceled messages (13)...I think.
I don't have an AM21 on this HR21 that I record Conan/Leno on...but I do know that when I went to my other HR21 this AM and tuned to one of my locals it had a 721 message...but then I changed the channel and came back and the message went away (this was around 6am EST time).

yes this has been happening to me with all my NYC locals for the past two months after 1 am screens just black, the month before there was a directv screen that said we are aware of the problem and there is no need to call? How come there is no information about this on DBSTALK's homepage? This is an inconveniece since i do not have OTA for Conan, a little heads up on when this was planned and for how long and why would have been nice

IMHO this just goes to show that informing the OTA viewing public (which I know you don't have since the MPEG4 channel is what you're looking for--BUT IIRC D* gets their HD feed via the OTA signal) is a "joke" for WNBC out of NYC---you'd THINK there would be SOME sort of message on their website...stating, "We're going to be performing maintenance on the combiner over the next few weeks so the 40-50 of you who watch our OTA HD channel will be affected"...or something like that! Nay nay...
Those of us who view HD OTA are so miniscule right now...that it doesn't matter to them that they felt compelled to even put the word out that they've been working on the antennas. I just wonder how much of this will change come 2/2009. WNBC out of NYC doesn't even tell viewers they can get their local weather on the 4-2 subchannel via an OTA antenna---they direct you to the cable channel in your area where this feed is available! I think they also have a 4-3 subchannel (which further crapitizes their HD signal)...but, you'd never know this from ANY of what they put in the crawl across the bottom of the screen during the various newscasts.
But since this thread is about the HD Locals on D* I'll leave that OTA discussion for the AVS Forums thread that touches on all those issues....:D

I only checked WCBS (2) and WNBC (4) before going to bed at 1am. They were both dark, no signal at all at 1am ET.
First, a lot of work has been going on atop the Empire State Building. The new Combiner, as with the old one, is the antenna that transmits digital -
2,4, 7, 9, 11 and 13.
Also, I have noticed that when O-T-A transmission has been suspended, Direct also loses it signal on many of the channels. This leads me to believe that Direct is using antennas to pickup signals - not hardwired fiber as I had thought.

Thanks... but it would be nice to get some sort of explanation from DirecTV; since it's affecting a lot of NY'ers. I mean, 1 am isnt very late at night and there are a lot of recordings that are being affected.
Saturday night at 1:00 AM.....channel 2/80 CBSHD, 4/82 NBCHD and channel 11 WPIX HD all went out AGAIN....with experiencing technical difficulties card up. Channel 2,4 and 11 have the gray message that they know about the problem and will fix...channel 80 and 82 have the white and blue DirecTV logo card saying there are technical difficulties.
This is getting old.

I've posted this before but had no good answers so I am sooo happy to add my name to this complaint.
I watch or DVR Craig Ferguson on CBSHD almost every nite and wind up with either black screen or a lame excuse "No Need to Call Us...... " or "This station is having tech......." message evry few months. Makes me awful mad! I pay extra for HD so where is it?
I also have a cable connection and I GET CBSHD, NBCHD, ABCHD all night long as well OTA! WHY does DTV insist it's something else? There ARE HD programs on after 1 am and DTV ISN'T delivering them while charging me for them!
If Time Warner can deliver the HD why can't DTV? Why doesn't DTV have a clue when I call about it and all they want is to schedule an expensive tech visit when I know it ain't me? I decline of course.
Where do I write a letter to the powers that be to get a straight answer (hopefully)?
Thanx!
Sorry didn't mean to sound angry at anyone here just at DTV! Ehhhh!
Time Warner and other large cable providers are hard-wired via fiber connected to New York's television stations.
As I stated previously, with Direct losing its signals late at night, it is clearly evident, at least to me, that Direct is not hard-wired and depends on O-T-A.
That's the difference.

As (I believe) was mentioned above: the NYC stations are having work done on the antenna...so the OTA HD/Digital signal is "shut down" at night. DirecTV (not DTV...DTV=Digital TV) gets their local HD station signals OTA IIRC, whereas cable gets there from hard wiring....ergo, cable has the signal/channel...whilst DirecTV (D*) has to put that info card up...or put nothing but a black screen up.
I record Conan (both episodes) EVERY WEEKNIGHT...and this has been going on for at least 3-4 months so I'm in the same boat with you. But, it's not D*'s fault...

WCBS on channel 2 has stuttering video, yet channel 390 is fine!
I've had stuttering issues with channel 2 and channel 5 --- off and on for the last week. On Saturday, on my HD DVR, channel 2 was stuttering but on my non-DVR HD receiver I had a black screen on channel 2.
I called and they are sending a technician to my house but I have to believe these are transmission problems rather than issues of wiring or dish alignment.
I had "stuttering video" on 5 yesterday and had to switch to my O-T-A feed.
Horrible LIVE TV lip-synch issues on 2, 4, 5 and 7 this morning. /steve
NY Locals are a mess today and over the weekend. Channel 5 NY-Fox had horrible video stuttering issues yesterday (Very Hard watching the Giants game) - Looked like movie footage from the 1930's. Channel 88 seemed to be ok though.
Today, still seeing issues with Fox. Now video and audio stuttering issues with NBC and CBS is horrible, pretty much unwatchable.
I never had any problems like this (been on Directv since 1997). Seems like it all started with the last upgrade..when all the DVRs locked up.
Its starting to get rediculous.
i had a lot of 771 errors over the weekend and it doesn't appear to be an alignment issue since others in the metro area chimed into my thread and confirmed that they too were having issues. the majority of the problems happened between 23:30 on saturday night - 01:00 on sunday morning.
anyone know if D* is screwing around with the spot beams or something?

Interesting that you bring up 771 errors...because for me, my HR22 and a separate HR20 were recording LOST via WABC-DT on D*....and they were pixelated and frozen and all mucked up...but we didnt' see a 771 error message when we watched the recordings.
Do the 771 messages only appear when you are watching in real time...and on a recording they just show up as a frozen picture or pixelation ?!?!
I know we had heavy rains on Sat night but they ended WAY before the 11pm-1am timeframe...and I'm aware of the rain fade issue and 771 on MPEG 4 channels...but I've never had it "happen" to me before.
i don't record on the HD LIL channels, i use OTA HD for recordings... but my fiance always uses the HD LIL channels for real-time viewing b/c she forgets to key in the '-1' at the end.... so she pointed out the errors to me.

Since D* Swapped out a problematic HR20 that kept getting 771 errors on Tuner 2 I haven't had ANY 771 errors on that particular box. But, since it's an HR22, I lost the ability to record OTA---I have an AM21--but haven't hooked it up on that unit since I'm still reading about trickplay issues WRT the OTA recordings
AFA my HR20, my wife stopped recording OTA on that one because we went through a stretch recently (month ago?) where the OTA locals were consistently a problem in the late primetime hours...and I couldn't pin down whether it was the tuner, my antenna/wiring or just a problem during that particular week (they weren't my shows so I really didn't care to investigate..... )

I posted in another thread about severe video stuttering issues on WNBC ch 4 (mpeg4). Tonight that seems to have cleared up, but now I'm getting the video stuttering on WCBS ch 2 (mpeg4). I recorded a program on WCBS on Monday night, 11/3 and it was fine, so this is a more recent problem.

Channel 4 WNBC Today Show lip sync is off and picture is stuttering
I've been meaning to bring this up for about a month:
For the last few weeks, my recordings of "Lost" on my HR22 have been starting "on time" according to the guide----but the SHOW itself is already about 10-15 minutes in by the time the 12:05 recording starts. The guide each week shows it's scheduled to start at 12:05am with the 2nd episode starting at 1:05 IIRC on Sunday AM.
So: Is the D* guide off? Did ABC change their start time and not tell anyone? Am I the ONLY ONE recording LOST off of D*"s HD channels? Am I stuck in the twilight zone?
Thanks!

On one of my HR21's this AM I noticed the following:
MPEG-4 NBC is an abomination.
I noticed it being REALLY bad this AM during the 6am news...and as others have said the MPEG-2 HD feed was fine on 392 was fine...and the OTA on my HR-20 was fine.
It fluctuates visually from scenes like you're watching one of those picture book type things where you flip the pages and you see the characters move (i.e. the video stutters and jitters) or the audio is so far off from the video it looks like you're watching a dubbed foreign film. In addition the crawl along the bottom stutters and jitters.
In addition, my wife was up to see Leno last night and she said the was VERY off on that as opposed to the timing of the video.
I flipped to the MPEG-4 feeds of CBS/ABC/FOX/WPIX and they seemed fine for the 1-2 minutes I was watching each of them.
Channel 4 WNBC MPEG4 is still a mess with viseo stuttering. How do we get DirecTV engineering to take a look at what's happening here?

Stuttering and audio dropouts or no audio with stuttering. Started last couple of months. My H20-100 and HR20-700 are both having this problem. Totally random. Different time of day. Same problem for me too. Has been going on for months now. If I tune to channel 88 or OTA it works fine so I don't see what could be so hard about getting this fixed. Does anyone even know if Directv is aware of these issues? I called them about a month ago but obviously it has done no good.
I did this last week when NBC's MPEG-4 was stuttering...and he got someone's eyeballs on it.
I'd try the same thing with this issue. Either way it's a constant on MOST of the MPEG-4 stations...as I saw this last night when I sat down to watch last Tuesday night's "Without a Trace" from Tuesday night on CBS MPEG-4.
So, I've seen the stutter on CBS/NBC/FOX....but haven't noticed if it's there on ABC...and I can honestly say I don't watch much if anything on PIX or WOR...but I'll probably start watching some PBS WNET since it's available in HD now.

I am watching the game on 398 due to the stuttering on WNYW 5. I don't know why this channel does not have the stuttering. - Hope this helps.
Yesterday's NY Giant's football game on NY Fox (Mpeg 4) broadcast was unwatchable. However, changing to channel 88, the Mpeg 2 broadcast was smooth. It seems like I have been seeing this quite a bit lately. Has anyone else had the issue? What is causing it?

I happened to watch the Giants via OTA yesterday, on 5-1. No issues (besides the Giants' play). So, FWIW, the stuttering was apparently not present in the original feed to DirecTV. /steve

Channel: ABC Network HD Channel 7 NYC
Date & Time: 24/7 - first noticed Sunday 10/4
Issue: Most all HD programming has green artifacts covering all flesh / white / bright areas. Looks like moss growing on cement.

+1 for me. Sorry it took me so long to look this issue up. HEAVY green push. HEAVY. Noticed it on 2 HD DVR'S (HR20/HR21). And only on ABC-7 HD via D*.

I've been seeing green on ABC for quite a while. Flashfoward last Thursday was pretty bad. Switching to OTA from CT as opposed to NYC (I can pick it up across the Sound) got rid of the problem completely.

I'm still getting the green slime on OTA ABC 7 NYC, DirecTV ABC 7 NYC and DirecTV ABCeHD 396 NY (not quite as bad on 396 for some reason). HD is worse then SD and some HD shows (ex. FlashForward, Desperate Housewives) are worse then others. I've been seeing green on ABC for quite a while. Flashfoward last Thursday was pretty bad. Switching to OTA from CT as opposed to NYC (I can pick it up across the Sound) got rid of the problem completely.

OK is there someone at D* I can talk to, this is getting ridiculous.
* Channel(s) WPIX 11
* Date 2/5/10
* Time 8pm-10pm
* Description of Issue: Audio dropouts
Smallville is the only show I watch on CW11 and the audio drops have been going on the entire season. I thought it might just be my box but someone else on AVS also agreed with me. I was up late the other night and caught Stargate: Atlantis at 3am and there were quite a few dropouts on that show as well.

They do not follow these forums and we need everyone to call them. The issue is being discussed here:

WPIX Channel 11 -- several instances of "brrips" and pixellation on the 2/12 broadcast of Smallville. This keeps happening on this channel.
Absolutely and Direct does nothing about it!
The OTA for 11 is fine.
Anyone else using an HD DVR noticing a LOT of video glitching/smearing/pixelation on ABC HD programs on D*'s 7 HD feed? I've noticed it on LOST, MODERN FAMILY and THE MIDDLE. In addition I was watching NBC and saw similar video glitching on the 7am NBC news.
We don't watch/record anything on Ch11 to notice issues there...but ABC/NBC are heavily watched.

I have been watching the Olympics on NBC-HD on a HR22 with no issues except an occasional audio drop. I also watch LOST on ABC-HD and did not notice anything. The CW is terrible for me, all kinds of video and audio issues. CBS is perfect, not one issue. I record Two Half Men every night on CH11 and it seems ok but I have a lot of episodes that I have not watched.
Around 5:45-6:15ish this AM. Freezing video but audio was fine. Happened every 5 or so seconds. I didn't have time to flip to any other local HD channels to see if it was isolated to NBC or was on all the locals.
