None of the shows have been broadcast in HD tonight. Also the delay on the audio is way way off
I just watched "Survivor" in HD and I am watching CSI in HD right now. No audio problems tonight on CBS.
I have had a couple audio problems on FOX over the last week.
Sorry its WMAR ABC channel 2 in Baltimore. None of the shows have been broadcast in HD tonight and the Audio delay is way way off..sorry for the confusion before
I have not had one problem with DTV HD for a long long time until the lockup responded to the other day by DTV. Now today I find that FOX - WBFF (45) is basically unwatchable this evening due to the audio squawk issue returning in full force.
The other problem I have noticed, not related to local channels, is that shows recorded last evening on HD channels do not play. All I get is a black screen with no audio.
All I can say is "not this @$^! again!" :nono2:

Having problems with HD 45 (Fox). The sound is way off from the video and there have been many audio blips making it hard to watch. It's too bad the baseball playoffs are on Fox. I hope this gets fixed soon. Anybody have an idea what the problem is?
I have NO SOUND now on 45!

I have been watching the LA/Phi game for the last 15 minutes and the picture is very jerky. There is also a audio sync problem but the buzz saw sound that I have been getting has only happened a few times. Before it would just keep doing it.

I didn't have the buzz saw sound but I had to switch to the SD feed because I can't stand to watch this anymore. No issues in SD.

I get the Baltimore stations OTA tuned on an HDTiVo. Wed. night I had a blank screen, but a high 90s signal on FOX 45. It was back and looked great for baseball last night. I don't know if it's related.
I've seen the CW do this twice (no picture or audio with a very strong signal) but be back hours later. I don't know if it's them or my TiVo. I should check them on D* when this happens. Haven't done that yet. It'll be interesting to see if one works while the other doesn't.

I have noticed this but its always been Satellite, when I switch to OTA its been fine. Something is wrong either in the way 45 sends their signal to DirecTV or withe the way D is processing the signal. Since all of the other Baltimore locals appear to be OK I think it must be D..????
Does anyone know the outer range of the HD spot for Baltimore? I'm on the road quite a lot for work and sometimes I take my receiver with me to plug in here or there while away. I've not had a problem with the SD locals but the HD feed seems off.
I am watching the Texas-Oklahoma game on ABC - WMAR (2) and have a band of pixilated video just below the ESPN game info graphic at the top of the screen. It appears to only be WMAR and none of the other HD channels. Anybody else seeing the same thing?

I haven't been following the game (watching prerecorded programming and checking on the SD/NE game for my football pool).
If there are issues with WBFF, I encourage anyone to post it at http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=793124 because the WBFF/WNUV engineer frequents there.
Every time I check it out, I am getting clean audio. The last game, I was getting the motorboat noise every few seconds. Supposedly, DirecTV changed their local encoder to fix the problem.

HR22-100 (x028A)

Sunday through this morning, experienced staccato/machine gun audio on local Baltimore channels 2 (ABC-WMAR) and 45 (FOX-WBFF).
The corrupted audio:
- occurs for about 1/2 second duration, every 5 to 10 seconds.
- occurs on Dolby track as well as non-Dolby track
- occurs on multiple programs.
- did not resolve following a reboot.
- is most noticeable on Fox at the beginning of MLB baseball games.
At the beginning of the NLCS game last night, the audio was 1/2 second ahead of the video. Interestingly, by the end of the game the corrupted audio seems to have resolved, but it was back when I turned on the TV this morning.

Yep, I'm still here (there). I'm as frustrated with DirecTV as you all are.
I just read this list, and I can answer a couple of questions.
For example, DirecTV gets our HD feed the same way I do at home - OTA. They have a receive location set up downtown someplace with antennas and receivers for all of the local channels. They take the output of the receivers, multiplex them together and send them out to Colorado via fiber. As a number of you know, the signal OTA is fine. As a matter of fact, the signal on Comcast is fine and they get our signal OTA. (The signal on FIOS is also fine - they get our signal as an ASI program stream via fiber). The signal from DirecTV is bad. I'll let you draw your own conclusions.
What else was there...
Oh yeah - although there may be morons working here (I'll neither confirm nor deny that), the nice lady who answers the phone isn't one of them. She can (1) look at the picture and listen to the audio from OTA and cable and tell you what she sees, and (2) let you talk to me who can look at the picture OTA and on cable and tell you what I see. We can't tell you anything about your DirecTV reception or the problem that they are having handling our signal, except to tell you that you aren't alone in seeing it, and that I've called them yet again to tell them about it. If I really felt like chatting, I might also tell you that I've not only checked everything through the transmitter, and found no problem with either the audio or video streams. I do the same check each time DirecTV has a problem with our audio, and after proving that our signal is OK, they do something and fix the issue for another 6 months...
Anyhow, feel free to write, call, whatever. I'll call DirecTV again tomorrow, as I do every day, and let them know that I'm still getting complaints from their customers. Hopefully they'll get around to fixing it for you all, again. Wish I could do more...
I don't know if it would help, but if you all get a list of your receiver model numbers and software versions, it might come in handy. There was a problem in Comcast a while back, and it turned out to be with one model of DVR running one version of software.

Thanks for the info Mark, you were very helpful the last time this was a big issue. By the way the last two days have been much better. Occasional "burps" but nothing like before so you must have gotten through to them. Also this time it wasn't just Fox 45 the local ABC affiliate was having a lot of audio and video issues through DTV.
John

FOX 45 news this morning was having BAD audio problems distortion and total dropouts on both my hr-20's OTA was fine.
Someone needs to get there head out of there ass and get this problem takin care of. I see it more during primetime but a few weeks ago it was all day for 2 days.
It's sad when you have a HD DVR and have to go to TV torrents and download the shows you love because they're unwatchable with these audio issues.

Thanks for all of the info. Can anyone tell me if the problem is still occurring this morning?
DirecTV called the station last night to tell us we had PSIP problems, although the symptoms they were complaing about (the
"- Audio Drop-outs
- Static
- Motor boating - audio/video fluttering sound and picture (as described by Brett)
- Lipsync Issues"
(from an e-mail to me from the nighttime engineer here)) aren't consistant with PSIP issues.
I've checked everything here (yet again) this morning and find no issue from the transmitter. I'm going to call them back, but it would be handy to know if the problem is still going on.
Thanks again - and thanks to you all for calling DirecTV and complaining! I think they are starting to take the problem more seriously!

We currently have access to Baltimore City Comcast (analog only) and DirecTV SD. We have boxes on order for DirecTV HD and Dish, but they aren't in yet, although we're wired for them (DirecTV and Dish provide them to us for free!). FIOS isn't in the area, so we can't get that. I'll probably swap out the analog only cable box for an HD one, but I'm out of inputs to the monitor wall, so I can't have both...
I appreciate you guys keeping me up to date with problems. Even after we get the additional receivers in, the master control operators can't listen to all of the sources at the same time, and the on-screen alarms won't show that the audio is stuttering, just if it's there or not. In addition, although it doesn't really apply to this group, we don't have any way to monitor any of the other areas that Comcast (or any other cable company, for that matter) serves.
I was thinking about getting a bunch of sling boxes and putting them out all over the place, but I haven't gotten anywhere with the idea, and I'm pretty sure the corporate IT guys would have a cow if I were to tell them that I wanted to stream video and audio from multiple sources back to the station.
Thanks again -

I have no idea how your monitoring works but just in case. With the stuttering the Dolby Digital signal actually stops and starts up. Not sure if you could use that as a warning trigger.

There's a delay of 5 seconds (I think) in the audio alarm so that it doesn't (usually)go off during quiet scenes, or black spaces between the program and commercials.
Unless the audio goes away for that long, the alarm doesn't show. I don't know if it does, you guys would have to tell me at this point - I have Dish, and I get my Baltimore local channels OTA (I have the DC locals in HD from Dish and OTA, so I can choose).
Thanks for the input. As soon as I get the boxes installed, I'll find out for myself!

I stumbled across this forum looking to find out more about what's going on with my OTA antenna reception.
I'm getting audio stutter on WBFF 45-1 while watching Judge Judy this afternoon when I use the ATSC decoder in my Toshiba 20HL67 television.
I just picked up one of those DTV-coupon converter boxes, a Zenith DTT901, and hooked it up to my antenna. The signal was decoded with no audio stutters.

Which shows? I have not had a problem with ABC programming since they fixed their issues from a little while back.
I have noticed that if a syndicated show is HD anywhere, the guide data tends to say it is HD everywhere. That is not a WMAR only issue but it seems to be a Tribune issue.

I've been watching NFL football on WJZ channel 13 today ( Sun. ) The picture and audio was breaking up during the first game then the Raven's game came on and the breakup continued. I swictched to my OTA antenna and saw that the breakup continued on this channel as well. Occasionally the picture would drop out of HD into an SD signal where picture and audio were stable. So I'm assuming this was a CBS or channel 13 problem. I'm still on my antenna and currently the picture is back in HD and is stable for now. When I say I'm on my antenna I mean my rabbit ears that connect directly to the tv not through my HR 20.

I had this same problem today, 1/4/09, from around 11 AM - 2 PM intermittently.
I was watching the NFL game (Dolphins Ravens), and on our local HD channel the screen is freezing and breaking up as if in a heavy storm. It is happening on ALL local channels (at least the 3 I have checked). I am in Baltimore.
I checked the transponder map, and it appears our local WJZ WBAL and WMAR are all on transponder 15, 103w. I assume this is 103(s) since the other 103 has NA for transponder 15.
Anyway, each time it happens I flip to another channel so I can bring up the menu, and transponder 15 on 103(s) is consistently 86 or 87.
I also checked on my other receiver (both are HR20-700), and saw the same problem. SD broadcast was fine. I did not have my OTA antenna hooked up so I could not check that, now I do.
After around 2 PM it went away and has been fine. Seems like a DTV problem since signal strength was fine, occurred on multiple receivers, SD was fine.

Last night (3/11), for the 4th time during the last 2 weeks, local (Baltimore) NBC and CBS channels were either totally black, give a 771 message, or were so severely pixelated that the programs were entirely unwatchable.
During each occurrence, my wife and I turned on the TV around 10:30pm to watch the programs (e.g., ER, L&O, Numbers) that began recording at 10pm. One time the entire recording was black, and the other 3 times it was a severely pixelated.
To watch these shows, we have resorted to recording them using the AM21 off air tuner, which worked once.
Since we rarely tune into ABC or FOX during this time period, I cannot say whether or not these channels are affected. Programs recording on other channels during this time period seem to be unaffected.
We have not noticed any issues on the Baltimore local channels during any time other than between 10pm and 11pm Eastern time.

It sounds like this is an issue not with the locals but with your setup somewhere. You may want to start a thread in the general forums to get your issues taken care of. Off the bat I'd ask you to post your signal strengths using Grentz's tool as a format: http://signal.dvrdns.org/.

I have been having a lot of audio and video problems with CBS (WJZ) MPEG4 HD channel that last two or three weeks.
The audio has been dropping out for a few seconds at a time or getting the stuttering sound.
The video has been going black for a few seconds, or freezing for a few seconds, or breaking up.
I have been having about 5 to 10 problems per every hour of a program.
Signals are all in the 90's so that is not the problem.
Anyone else in the Baltimore area seeing these problems?
Thanks

I don't watch a lot of WJZ programming but I did get two freeze/dropouts with about 1 or 2 seconds missing during Mondays comedies last week. I will see if I get it again. It was one in each of two shows.

Haven't watched much WJZ lately but I've heard frequent audio dropouts with slight intermittent stuttering on both WBAL 11 and WBFF 45.

I have had a few problems with other local networks too but WJZ has been the main problem for the last few weeks.

Mike, I also don't watch a lot of WJZ programming but I was watching a recording of "The Price Is Right" last night and had two to three video dropouts.

Recently I've been seeing a lot of pixillation and audio drops on WUTB 24 HD DTV channel. My signal strengths all seem to be ok and I'm not seeing this on any of the other HD locals - 11, 13, 45 etc. Is anyone else noticing this?

Sorry, I don't watch that channel. I just flipped it on for a few seconds and didn't notice anything.
EDIT:  As soon as I posted it pixelated. Must be a problem with their uplink. It was a weird, nothing I've ever seen before (and that's saying something since I was with Comcast previous to DirecTV, home of the weird pixelation issues):

Thanks, glad it's not just me. It's the only local I'm seeing this on. I switched over to their off the air HD channel and I don't see any issues.

Wow, it's really bad. I happened to leave it on when The Office came on and it just went blank for 2 second and switched to the SD feed... jumped over to OTA and it's also switched to SD.
Cut backs at my24?

Audio dropouts for the second night in a row on Fox (WBFF). The audio drops out every 15-25 seconds for a second. The audio also seems out of sync due to this. Anyone else experiencing this?

No, not on Fox, but on WUTB it's been horrible lately.
I don't think Fox has ever been right for me  I end up doing over-the-air

I have had a lot of problems with WBFF in the past but not recently. I will be watching 24 when it starts. If I have any problems I will let you know.

I am now having problems again. The first 30 minutes was fine but I paused it for about 30 seconds and the audio is now out of sync and I am having audio drop outs.

On WUTB "My 24" audio and video have been horrible for months. Last night as you guys noted 45 was out of sync with a ton of drop outs. Watched NBC on WBAL 11 and that was having a fair amount of drop outs. I've switched several times to watch the SD channel because of all this.

Anyone getting a lot of breakup on WMAR 2 - ABC lately? Watching the NBA games right now and seeing frequent pixelation and audio drops. Had to check the weather radar to see if a storm was moving through. Didn't see anything. I believe I've seen several issues on ABC broadcasts recently. Don't know what sat. or transponder that station is on but all signals seem pretty strong.

I don't watch a lot of ABC (WMAR) but I have noticed a few break ups during each show as of late.

After I posted this I switched my tv to watch their over the air broadcast. All the same audio drops were there with some occasional video spasms as well. I guess it's just an ABC HD thing not a DTV one.

Same here tonight Over-The-Air. The picture and sound were in and out all night long

Anybody else having heavy pixelation and audio drops on all baltimore HD locals right now? I can go to the SD channels and it's fine, but the HD channels are unwatchable on both my HDDVRs.
I'm having great signal strength and all Sats.

It's starting to get better. Audio drops are gone but there is still some pixelation happening. Someone must be working on it.

I wish they would work on Channel 24 - My 24HD. That's been a mess for almost a year now! I don't watch it often which is a good thing!

Has anyone been seeing a fair amount of intermittent video and audio breakup on HD Channel 2 WMAR recently? I don't see this on the local broadcasts but am seeing it on the network programs. All my signal strengths seem good and the weather has been clear.

I am getting break up on all the Baltimore locals tonight even though it appears my signal level is fine. If I am reading the documents here correctly, I am looking at transponder 20 on 103s, which is giving me a reading of 95 steady. No problems with any national channels.
I would assume DirecTV is having a market issue?
Anyone else?

Actually the last 2 nights there has been intermittent breakups on the HD locals. I believe because of the occasional torrential rain. Sometimes when I've switched to the SD version channels I could get the signal, different satellite. But when these rain storms occur I've seen the off the air local HD broadcasts breakup as well.

This wasn't the rain. That caused issues later. My HD locals go out after the nationals when it rains. And the signal was strong.
It got better about an hour later and seems okay this morning.
