upgrading to HD

A friend of mine wants to upgrade to HD but isn't sure how or what she'll be able to get and the cost. I've read a few things from different posts but can't get it all together.

1. She doesn't want a HD DVR, which I can't understand. I have 2 of them. She just wants an HD receiver. I understand she can get this free.

What if she buys one from Best Buy for $99. Will that be refunded to her when she upgrades?

2. How many months will they offer a rebate of the $10 HD charge? I've read everything from none to 12 months.

3. Other offers? HBO, Starz, Etc.?

Thanks for the help, I've been trying to get good answers for her and have not been able to locate everything in 1 spot.

I upgraded a cust to a HD DVR I had purchased. D* did give a refund to match the offer they have. but unless there is a specific reason to get one I'd get it from them and have the tech bring it. Remember even a unit purchased at a retailer will be a leased unit.

I'm leaning more towards the none, but a call to a CSR will give you the only real answer.

Maybe 3 months, same here with that CSR call
