CNN cancels Connie Chung tonight show

It got great ratings, so I'm not sure why it was axed. According to the Globe, it was more about CNN's desire to brand itself as being edgier and Cheung's relatively light-hearted show not fitting with that image. :shrug:

i forget her name, but CNN DOES have one of the most irritating newsgals over there that i have ever witnessed...at work, the monitors there only show CNN and when she comes on, she just prattles and runs on like she thinks she may never get another chance to talk, to the point where anderson cooper or the gal working with him has to cut her off mid sentence just to get a word in edgewise....

I like Anderson Cooper too - used to watch him on abc overnight. Very cool guy. I think he was formerly an accounting firm. :D

I heard he became a combat correspondant just so people would take him seriously. I once saw him interviewing Gloria and I was thinking he's taking a very familiar tone with her. Little did I know.

I guess we all have our own opinion firephoto. That's what makes life interesting. I thought she did a good job during her Talkback Live stint--as well as during her frequent fill ins for Paula Zahn.

Anderson Cooper BTW is NOT the co host of Daybreak. He has been featured during the war coverage.

Getting back to Connie ... she wanted to do a hard news show but the suits at CNN wanted her to do a soft show - now they want hard news but don't want Chung.

Go figure!

And by the way - Connie was 2nd to Larry King as far as ratings goes within CNN.

I will be interested to see what they do with the slot. They seem to think that O'Reilly is vulnerable. So even though Chung's rating would otherwise be considrered good they chose to cancel.

I am an Erica Hill fan myself but I don't see that move guys. More likely an outsider with marquee value or an outside chance of a more established figure within CNN getting the nod.

I guess firephoto and I disagree on her credentails but MS. Costello is one of the frequeent subs that has been rumored to be being groomed for a better slot. Ditto for Mr. Cooper. I still don't see prime time. Although in both cases it si somewhat more likely than Erica Hill.

I think she could very well get a job at another channel doing the news for them, seeing the ratings that she got and her popularity she should be a good contender.
