I just read where Echostar is gonna lease sat. capacity from SES Americom at the 105 slot.
Is it me or does E have much more potential than D because of all the sat capacity it owns/leases - might be acquiring ie Rainbow 61.5.
It seems D is limited by it's capacity whereas E just keeps on expanding their own capacity.:)
Plus Dish network already has a lot more transponders at CONUS orbital slots than DirecTV.

Well, not a "lot"...they have 4 more ConUS transponders than DirecTV. What the do have is many "wing" slots.

I dont think it is clear yey how they will use the SES slots. They have said they will deliver programming and the net but I don't think it is clear how much bandwidth for each. But yes this isa good development. However it would involve some changes in equipment obviously.

They wont be using 61.5 slots that Rainbow has at this rate because they are launching the service at the end of the year.
How can DirecTv have so many channels at 101 when yet it takes 110, 119 to deliver the channels for Dish?
Is this 105 SES slot the 105.5 slot that SES is going to use for their future satellite service or another one going at 105.0?

As is mentioned above DirecTv has all of 101 plus aportion of both 110 and 119.
DISH has a total of four more CONUS transponders. They also have the side slots. (61.5 and 148) But it is not as if DISH has aan overwhelming advantage in capacity.

Jacob,
DirecTV has the advantage on their main slot. Dish has the overall avantage on conus transponders. As to channel capasity, Dish has quite a bit of it "in reserve" right now at 110° both conus and spots. The conus transponders at 119 are as full as they can get, but there is room on the spots for locals. Dish has 64 local markets up and running now. They have room for about 15 more on their existing satellites.
DirecTV has pretty much reached capasity on their 101 slot both conus and spot. they have a 54(?) local markets. 40 or so More to come after the super-duper spot beam satellite gets to 119°
Dish DirecTV
101° 0 32
110° 29 3
119° 21 11

When is this super duper spot beam going to hitting 119? This is where I am guessing the locals in my area are going up.

Tony-
New member here! In your opinion, why does Dish have spare capacity on CONUS TP's at 110? Looking at Lyngsat, I see that on some CONUS TP's there are 3 or 4 or 5 channels/services. Any idea why? Are they going to consolidate some of those to add more local markets? Do they need to...considering that they may be adding local services from 105 and 121?
