View Full Version : Accessory jack on 508 and switch64
I have two sw64's in the house, each has it's own transformer and power inserter. I noticed my new 508's have an accessory jack and the manual mentioned switch power, but they do not elaborate (or provide any cabling).
So, can the 508's power my sw64's via the accessory jack instead of the extra wall warts I have now? And if so, is their a special cable I need (and where can I get it?)
Thanks,
Bill

No, the only switch that jack powers is the old SW-AJ which is no longer made. HOWEVER, if you eliminate the inserter, the 508 should power the switch by itself without the need for the inserter or power supply. DishPro models put out more voltage than the older legacy models.

Dude can you confirm that? On a legacy system with a SW64 a 508 will power the swich elminating the need for a power inseter?
And a second followup, does that hold true even if the 508 is 'off' (at least from the remote) (e.g. this works as long as it's plugged in?). That would be great, I'd love to get rid of those two transformers.

Not only that but power inserter fail;ure recovery would be fast.
I want to upgrade to dish pro, but lack the $ right now.

IIRC, the dishpro receivers (the 508 being one of them) will only power dishpro switches, not legacy switches. With no voltage, the sw64 will be no better than a doorstop.

Yes I checked this and found out I was wrong, it will not work. I was given bad info and passed it on without checking first. My bad!
