View Full Version : HD DirecTV Service
Can someone tell me how I can initiate DirecTV HD service? I am an RVer and already have my HR21/Slimline equipment/Maxwell Satellite HD PortaKit. I don't need an installer to come out, just the service started.
Everytime I call DirecTV I get shuffled around until the line goes dead. I have tried several different telelphone numbers.
Thanks for your input!

Already tried that. Any other ideas? Anyone know a dealer that might help. The "no installation necessary" seems to be the hangup.

The site gives techniques for talking to actual customer service at places. Use its tips to talk to a human at D*, and they likely will be able to take care of it. Companies love to sign up customers, as long as their automated phone call defense systems don't thwart them.

No...that is why I am posting here. The CSRs all seem baffled by the idea of not sending an installer out so I get transferred around until the call dies.

1. Call Directv. Make sure you can view one of their free/test channels, 100 or 201, first.
2. Tell them you need to start an account. They will need to create one from scratch. Also tell them that you have all your equipment.
3. You will have to give them your SSN for them do a credit check and to activate the account without a fee.
4. Give them the receiver information. It is very likely that the receiver you have is leased and not actually owned by you. If it is actually owned you will have to talk to the access card team.
5. Pick your programming
6. Watch Directv:)

Here's why you are having problems:
No retailer is authorized to give you (i.e., "sell" you, which really means LEASE you) any DirecTV receivers unless they FIRST create an account for you. Somehow, you have obtained an HR21.
If you got it from a retailer somewhere, they should have created an account for you before accepting your up-front lease fee for the receiver (with the exception of the HR21Pro, all modern DirecTV receivers are leased, and remain the property of DirecTV at all times). If this is the case, you need to go back to the retailer and either have them set up the account for you, or return the equipment and go to someone else who will.
If you obtained the HR21 some other way, say, on Craigslist or eBay, there's an excellent chance that the receiver cannot and will not be activated for you regardless, as it was supposed to have been returned to DirecTV upon the previous customer deactivating it.
