Saying she wanted to set the record straight, ABC Cable Networks President Anne Sweeney said EchoStar's efforts to eliminate the ABC Family network from its DISH Network DBS service is misguided.
"Disney has never sought any increase in the carriage fees for ABC Family beyond those agreed to by EchoStar in the contract signed in 1995," Sweeney said Tuesday.
"This issue is a dispute over Echostar's misinterpretation of the contract language regarding change of control provisions," she added. She kept her comments short, saying that she didn't want to negotiate the skirmish in the press.
EchoStar wants to drop ABC Family from its lineup, but on New Year's Eve a U.S. District Court judge granted a temporary restraining order against elimination of the channel from the DISH Network DBS service.
