View Full Version : Can I lie about my dish setup on my DirecTiVos?

I'm a long time DirecTV customer that recently went HD. My dish was upgraded from an 3 LNB model to a Slimline 5.

When the 3 LNB was installed, I was a "victim" of a late year install. The installer put the dish up even though 110 and 119 were actually right through some trees on the west edge of my property. Things were fine until spring came and then I lost signal to those sats completely. It wasn't that big of a deal, about the only thing I would miss that I ever watched was the NASA channel.

This June I had an installer put up a Slimline 5 after much begging (read: cash money;)) and promises that I would not call DirecTV about any signal problems related to not seeing 110/119. From reading here I knew things would work out eventually with D11 going live and you guys certainly didn't let me down.

Now, onto my question. Whenever I need to reboot my DirecTiVos they take forever to boot up since they are searching for 110 & 119. Since they are essentially being "lied" to anyway by being set for the 3 LNB dish setting, is there a reason why I can't just tell them they are connected to a single LNB dish? Will they then just ignore every other sat than 101? Will this help with my boot times?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

Yup, you can set it to just 101 without problems.

Might help boot times a bit, but remember the DVRs like the Tivos especially take a long time to boot no matter what ;)

True. :)

I was mainly looking to eliminate the part where it churns for 10 minutes looking for sats it can't see before it lets you watch Live TV.

Having just activated one recently, after managing to "forget", I'm gonna have to give this post a big +1. Sheesh, I really did forget how bad those things were to set up the first time.

You should have seen what my TiVo back in the day that had a few extras (TWP, larger HDD) was like to boot.
