Pegasus Satellite Television, which provides DirecTV in rural areas, said it helped in the arrest and indictment of a Scottsboro, Ala., man, who was charged with possession of equipment used in the theft of satellite TV signals.

During a raid at the man's house, the FBI confiscated two truckloads of materials with a street value of more than $1 million, Pegasus said. The confiscated items included access cards, about 200 programming devices, electronics to build up to 1,000 additional programming devices, three computers and hacking software.

The unidentified man was charged with three counts of a law that prohibits the possession of equipment used in satellite television piracy. If found guilty, the man could face a total of 15 years' imprisonment and up to $1.5 million in fines.

Pegasus said it has hired a team of private investigators to track leads, build cases and aid local law enforcement and the FBI in the ongoing battle against piracy of satellite TV services. The company also conducts advertising campaigns educating consumers about the legal ramifications of purchasing and/or using illegally modified access cards.
