trouble changing transponders

I have an hird-d2 dtv system. I am trying to change the transponder (80%) strength to a stronger one at 92%, it keeps on reverting back to the 80% one for some reason...... thanks

You can't "change" transponders. Each channel on Directv is on a given transponder. Each transponder can hold X amount of channels. For example, CNN and Disney could be on transponder 8, Fox News on 12, and your locals on a spotbeam transponder. Channels are not duplicated to every transponder. (I don't know the actual transponders, just making random assignments)

I have often wondered why DirecTV and DISH don't do a better job at explaining transponders in their manuals. It is a question that constantly comes up here and on many other DBS boards or newsgroups.
