Since Primestar has been off air for several years now, what are their sattelites used for now? DirecTV locals?
:)

Primestar never did own their own satellite they just rented space on the Ku side of the GE-2 satellite (at 85º W.L.). Since Primestar was a DTH (Direct to home) service, NOT a DBS service, the satellite space could not be used by DirecTV.

GE-2 has since been renamed AMC-2 and is operated by SES AMERICOM, the same company that DISH Network is going to be buying service from. See this article. (http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/030327/275190_1.html)

HERE (http://www.lyngsat.com/amc2.shtml) is what is currently on the AMC-2 satellite.

No, this is in addition to the satellite going to the 121 orbital slot. E* owns the E9 satellite and both the KU-FSS and KA frequencies at 121. SES AMERICOM owns the satellite and the KU-FSS and KA frequencies at 105 and will lease the KA frequencies to E*, read the link to the article in Bill R post. The KU-FSS at 121 will most likely be used for additional locals, the KA at both 105 and 121 will most likely be used for a new Internet service by E* to better compete with cable with bundling deals.
