noob question...
does the dtv dish type should match what's showing on the receiver? also, should the zip code match where you live?
i have issues I need to address that's why I am asking this question.
1. My dish for some reason went out of alignment.
2. Tried to get DTV tech out to align it will cost me $80 since I don't have the protection plan.
3. I am tempted to align it using dishpointer. However, before I go any further, I need to know the answer to my question above.
as for my setup, I have an H21-200 that goes into my Sony 40" LCD and a standard receiver that goes into my Philips 20". the dish that I have says slimline on it with 3 LNB's?, or that's what I think they're called. googling a bit shows that it closely resembles a AU9-S.
as for the remote. what I have says RC32 which I use on my H21. this remote for some reason won't work when i sit down on another couch that angles about 45 degrees from the front of the receiver. is there anyway, i can use this remote or extend it so i can use it at any angle or anywhere?

The answer is Yes.
If you have an option for 5 LNB enter that.
Need to check your Owner's Manual see if your receiver is RF.If it is you would need an RF remote control.;)

The receiver is RF, but the RC 32 isn't.

I don't see an option to change the Satellite. It says something above DirecTV config something....I need to check it when I get home.
Is that the reason why I am having low readings on my 99 ?

Menu, Settings, Setup, Re-Run Satellite Setup.
Choose 5-LNB dish or Slimline-5.

Yes, but that is only used for the pointing coordinates, which should be the same as you get from dishpointer.com.
Dishpointer or the setup in the receiver is just a rough starting point. It's designed to get you in the neighborhood to get started.
When you say your dish when out of alignment why do you think that is the case? If it's just the 99/103 you probably just need minor tweaks not starting over from scratch. First thing to do in any case is make sure the mount is plumb and everything is tight. That alone might fix your alignment.

My dish went out of alignment last week from the 3rd to the 5th as we had some thunderstorms which resulted to losing my signal and no tv...I called on the 3rd day and the csr walked me through aligning it since mine was pole mounted.
I'll try to tweak it probably using a borrowed meter from a friend....
Any recommendations on the remote? Some say it better to go RF than buying an extender.
I've also read about the AM21. Do I need this even though I know my TV has a tuner built in?

I use the RF mode and listed those that work in RF above ^.
With an H21-200, there isn't much need for an AM21, because currently the AM21 doesn't yet work with it, and this isn't a recorder.
Watching OTA with your TV would work the same.

You bet, the "R" in the RC 64RB is for "RF" and the "B" is for backlit

and since my H21 has an internal rf antenna, I don't need the antenna kit right?

I wondered about the HR20-100.
Never had one to "remember".

strange thing happened 2 nights now. when we got home, tried to watch tv and the guide showed no channels whatsoever.
only thing I did was re-setup my satellite. on both occassion, I just re-started the receiver and it went fine.
anyone know whats causing this?

no idea reallly, but if you had a 'custom' favorites set up for your guide, you will need to change back to "all channels' or set your favorites up for your 'new' channels...also could have taken up to 24hrs to acquire all of the info after you changed your setup

had no custom favorites setup, no nothing custom channel program at all.
we just use the guide everyday and scroll from there...
last nigt, I left it on until 6AM and found that it lost some of the channels.
