I had a glitch with my 501 (my NHL CI wasn't on the guide for some reason), so I called technical support. The guy fixed me up pretty quick, and then asked if there was anything else he could do. So, I thought I'd ask about the 921. He said even though they are shooting for late summer, he really felt it will be closer to December. :bang
Many bug issues, the fact that the 721 is still buggy and customer complaints, so they don't want to release this big ticket item until its ready.
I guess I didn't want a buggy PVR, but man, December is a long way off if this guy is right.
Just thought I'd pass this on for what its worth.

Another date change! What next Jan 2004 or March 2004? I am tired of these changes...

Very true, waiting until everyone done spent their money on Christmas presents is not so wise, so if they get it out before Christmas then people might still have enough to buy the 921.
Just as Charlie says, when they say it will be out it usually means it will be out after that time like 2 or 3 months or something.
I would REALLY BE FANTASTIC if DISH ever gets a product out to the marketplace without needing a software upgrade just so it works.

Gee, If they wait long enough my local cable Co. might have HD feeds. Then I won't have to spend any of my money with Dish.
If HBO does not start showing movies in their proper aspect ratio I will stop sending them money too!

I also this week talked to tech support. The guy asked his super & then told me mid to late SUMMER!!
This would be welcome if TRUE!!:)
I'll won't believe any of Dish's dates until I have a 921 actually sitting in my equipment rack at home. They've been yanking my chain on the 921 availability date way too long.

The longer it takes to bring out the 921 the more I'm glad I didn't wait around for it and purchased the 6000 last Summer when we bought the TV. I already have a buyer lined up for my 6000 once the 921 does decide show its face.

So everyone is taking the word of a CS rep who doesn't even explain why he feels it will be closer to December?
Hey, I'm waiting on this too, but honestly, what official communication have we had from DishNetwork about the 921? A prototype was at CES, sure, but what else? Any press releases? How about any mentions at the website? Can anyone point me to anything?
What's hilarious is seeing all the posts from Directv partisans mocking us about Echostar's reliability or lack thereof (which does have some basis in fact), when their equivalent product won't be coming out until December at the earliest and is slated to cost $1800--or more than $800 more than the projected price of the 921.
Ah, well . . .

I agree, I wouldn't trust one CSR if they told me the sun rises in the east.
I haven't seen any facts to support his assertion the 721 is buggy. I had 2 DPs, so I KNOW buggy, our 721 has been solid! It doesn't have some of the features of the competition, but it has other advantages, but it has not been systemically buggy. No doubt there are folks out there that have had siginificant problems, but you can't paint the entire 721 line as buggy. For my 2 cents, just another CSR talking out of his @$s.

I would not trust the CSR. They are usually the last to know anything official.
Remember there is a tech chat coming up. We might have a beter idea of when the 921 will be available on that chat. :)

CSRs have caused me a lot of problems with me and my customers and cost me business and money because of their lies and deceptions with customers. They can be helpful in certain ways but in others cause more harm than good. It just depends on which one you talk to.
I bet there is a good chance it will not be out by the end of the year. Maybe if they would put a little more money into the product and rollout that they could actually get it out earlier than next year and with less bugs. Maybe they just wait as long as they can to bring it out to save money on supplies to increase their profit or to not lose as much on the product.

Jacob S I couldn't agree with you more. Please see my posts under Dish PVR 921 "Reason for Delay" and "Status of 921".

I also hope that he's totally wrong and we will hit that August/September timeline.
Like I said in my post, I was just passing this on for whatever it was worth. I know the CSR's usually don't know what they're talking about, and vary greatly in their knowledge. The only reason I posted this at all was that this CSR seemed to have half a brain! But I've been fooled before!
You are right Scott, lets hope we hear some concrete details on the Tech Chat coming up! The longer I have to hold on to this extra 1K I have, the more likely I am to spend it on something else!!:)
