Hello all, I am switching to D* from E* of 5 years.

To all my fellow Oklahoman's, Hello!, and I'll be looking forward to talking to you all soon!

My install is set for the 29th of Sep, so I'll let you all know how it goes.

Cheers!

Welcome to the D* club. I am not in OK, but just a bit south of you in the DFW TX area.

Thanks! Glad to be here. I ordered 1 x HD-DVR (don't know if it's going to be a HR21 or HR22, but based off of other posts, D* doesn't yet stock the HR22) - 1 x SD-DVR (I'm guessing will be a R22?) and a SD receiver.

I'll let you know about the install and I'll post pictures afterwards, I want to make sure the installer does a good job.

Anyone have any info on installers in the OKC area? Are the good? Knowledgeable?

:welcome_s to dbstalk.

Feel free to ask any questions once you get up and running.

Out of curiousity, did you consider getting all HD boxes?

I didn't want to pay the costs up front... what would be the advantage of getting this kind of setup?

The advantage is that you can get programming that's only available in HD (like the HD Extra Pack) on all of your TV's. I also think that programming (even SD programs) looks better when it's being delivered via an HD channel, regardless of whether or not you have an HD display.

Of course, those advantages aren't huge (you might not even be planning to get the HD Extra pack, for example), I just wasn't sure what kind of a deal you got and if there would have been much of a cost difference to go HD on all the boxes.

As a new customer you would most likely get the equipmet free! there are channels that you will not get that you are paying for with the HD access. standard equpment dose not recive the Smithsonian channel for example! the hd box can be used on a non-HD tv

Depends... You seem to be getting 3 boxes... how many HD TV's do you have? At some point, MRV will be available, and you may want to go all HD DVR at that point, but till then... there are a few arguments I can make, but they are pretty weak unless you have 3 HDTV's...

And by the way

WELCOME!!!!

I currently only have one HDTV - and the other TV's I rarely watch, they are for my wife (which I don't think cares about the extra channels from the HD extra pack.)

If I ever get a LCD for the bedroom I will definately upgrade the SD DVR to a HD DVR, but for now, she's fine with the SD DVR.

The total package I got was $107, which I had to get the NFL sunday ticket to get the HDDVR for free. I'm pretty satisfied with $107 up front.

oh... and GO POKES!

I agree with SpartanStew (BTW nice game yesterday!). I decided to go with HD receivers back when I only had one HD TV and it did make a difference on SD sets.:)

Yes! Congrats SpartanStew on the win!

What I'll do (since I've already made the order) is swap out the receivers on the TV's, as long as I have the SWM installed (correct?) and check the picture quality on my SD sets. That might sway me one way or the other.

Side note: Beavis, I root for the Sooners any day of the week, as long as it's not against the Pokes. My father is a huge Sooner fan, and I grew up watching them too.

bronsonlewis,

Welcome to DBSTalk - and DirecTV! :welcome_s

Not to try to disuade you because HD is da bomb, but if you have HD equipment, you will pay an extra $9.99 per month for the HD Access charge. As long as you have one HDTV, that may not be a problem (it's one $9.99 charge for the whole account, no matter how many HD receivers you have).

The other benefit to getting all HD now is unless you got the equipment for free this time around (in other words, if you paid anything for the SD equipment) and decide to go HD, you will likely have to pay to acquire the HD equipment when you upgrade anyway.

I live in Oklahoma and DirectSat did my install but I live int he NE corner of the state. They said there is a very small part they cover in Oklahoma. No idea who would in OKC. Call D* and ask them who is set for the install. They will give you a phone number to them if you ask for it. Also when you call in make a request that they add to the work order you want a HR22. The tech that installed me waited and extra hour and a half to bring me the HR20 I requested and everyone on here said it was a one in a million shot. It can not hurt.

Thanks Josh,

I will definately call and ask for an HR22.

Has anyone ever called the installer and had the install moved up several days? My install was set out 11 days, techniclly 7 Business Days. I would like him to come sooner if possible. Anyone hear of them doing this?

No but I did notice on here a few days ago was that some people were registering their D* accoutn already and then going into it and saying they wanted to change their install date. Some have said they looked daily and found a earlier date by doing that. I wish I had thought of that while I was waiting almost 3 weeks for my install. Give it a shot and let us know what happens.
