Dish's software versions page shows 3900's new version -
4/1/2003...

1.90 or something to replace the current 1.44...
Is this an April Fool's joke maybe? :)

Or was someone actually offered it already?

If anyone has it already - anything new in it?

How about 4900's - what is the newest version # for it?

Thanks

OK - check this page though:

http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/customerCare/technical/software_versions/index.asp

Notice the way info for 3900's shown there - 1.90 in the same box with 1.44 (hmmm) ...and said Apr 1/2003

Strange...
Sup with that anyone? (2 values in the same box - 1.44 and 1.90)

Never saw like this before...

That means its in initial rollout.

From what I know the software contains a few behind the scenes changes in the way Interactive TV works. I dont believe there is more then that in this release.

Yeah probably a small number of people got it, they will wait a few days to see if those folks have any problems, if not then they will roll it out to more (wait again) then release it to the rest of the 3900 owners.

I have a 3900 that I acquired with the house I just purchased but it is not activated or even in my name. I have hooked it up and do get the basic channels and Dish said it is in the clear.
If I hook it up to a sat will it download the latest version of software?

I got the update the 3900 in my room sometime last night.

Notible changes include:

--The channel bar at the top of the screen is now entirely transparent. I guess too many people complained about how the non-transparent blue sections of the old channel bar obstructed their view of the programming.
--A new feature called TV Enhancements has been added. According to the brief description, it is a complementary interactive service offered by networks that allows you to participate in polls, games, etc. for certain shows. You'll know that a program has TV Enhancements when an icon appears on your screen. I haven't seen it in action yet, but I sure hope that it's not annoying!

what version number? - 190?

hmm - icon appears...

Do not tell me it will be like 5th generations of DTV receivers - do not know if i like that...
gotto press cancel to get rid of that..

Oh well - "they put the food on our tables, we just eat it and then digest it" - lol :)

If it would be like the i icon that shows up on the dishplayer in which one could not get rid of, then this would annoy so many customers.

hmm - i just checked that Dish's software upgrade page again, at: http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/customerCare/technical/software_versions/index.asp

and weird thing - the 1.90 for 3900s (in the same box with 1.44) is gone now - and for now anyhow 1.44 is current one again...
Wonder - what's up with that?
Wonder - if they had some problems with it or something...

This page is pretty great, and up-to-date:
Interesting info - currently it shows 3000s and 4000s and 301s - all have multiple software versions in most current Box..
with 301 being older date...but 3000 and 4000 upgrade being fresh (April 2003) :)

still wonder - sup with 3900s???

Yep, my 3900 is back to the old software version. TV Enhancements is gone and the channel bar is back to its old format. Weird..

maybe there was an issue with the new software?

Have they ever went back a version before like this?

The closest I can come up with is back in 8/01 with PVR501 version P119. It was unable to install on a new 501. Dish reverted to P118 but I don't recall if this affected 501s that already had P119. The problem was fixed a week later with P120.

Maybe this P190 was a beta that wasn't ready for public release?

hehe - they came maybe to this forum and read the "Wink" thread ...
and some "negative" replies in it - and decided to put p190 on the backburner (for now anyhow) - lol - just kiddin'...
:)

This is one of the reaons why they only release the software in a small batch.

Obviously something was not good in the software so they had to revert back.

I am looking forward to getting Wink. :)
