PETA wants military to stop using dolphins (http://www.upi.com/view.cfm?StoryID=20030401-061320-4461r)
I was wondering how long it would take PETA to chime in on this.
At least these dolphins are saving lives. They aren't being used for entertainment purposes. They are probably treated better than most dolphins in confinement.
They mentioned this on Bob & Tom on the radio this morning. They said. Why don't we train members of PETA to swim around and locate mines.

I also say they should stop using Dolphins...
I vote that we use PITA members to replace the Dolphins. :)
PETA is a PITA (Pain In The A**)
The Brits also use dogs to sniff out hidden munitions.

The Wackiness of some Peta members really came to shine when they appeared on the Howard Stern E! show a few months ago. Howard said he would grill up and eat this fish (a trout or bass or something people eat all the time) he had in a fish tank. He would let them keep the fish if they got nude, they did... And it went wackier from there.

That PETA doesn't do good research because the NAVY has been doing this with/to dolphins for years. Why didn't PETA say something sooner? Don't they pay attention to things or do they need something to be in a tabloid before they realize it's going on?
Hmmmm....one dolphin (whose job is to find the explosives, not necessarily to detonate them) vs. 5000+ human beings on an aircraft carrier....
Sorry, Flipper. Fight the good fight, and you'll get lots of fish.

How about the Baboon heart stuff, Grandpa can't get a transplant so a baboon heart is his only alternative, Sorry, Baboony, Grandpa outranks you!!! They were protesting the unfair treatment of the baboon. I can understand that there is a lot of unecessary testing being done, but there is alot of direct animal testing to human health benefits.

They are trained to stay away from danger. This is a way for PETA to get some free press. About 3 years ago this kind of stuff backfired on them. In Maine they have a Lobster Festival and PETA ran radio spots in Boston saying to stay away from the Festival. But it gave the Festival Free press and the Lobster Festival had record crowds. PETA is known to use terrorist actions to get a point across. I love my dogs and cats but PETA goes way over the line.

People Eating Tender Animals
or People Eating Tasty Animals :)
Because we use transgenic mice to look for genetic cuases of birth defects, the PETA folks are always harrassing us. We go to our own version of "Orange Alert" whenever they demonstrate in front of the lab.
A few years back, they invaded the Oregon Primate Center and released a bunch of monkeys. This could have caused public health problems if these monkeys contracted diseases from the local mammals and then spread it to humans. Luckily all were found, most of them coming back to the cages on their own when they got hungry. Obviously the monkeys were smarter than PETA!
