Vienna, Va. - Cablevision Systems Corp., the New York metropolitan area's biggest cable TV service, plans to launch a satellite TV service in 2004 that would serve just a part of the country, company chairman Charles Dolan said in an interview yesterday.
To be successful, the new regional service would not have to attract nearly as many satellite subscribers as the roughly 17 million served by EchoStar Communications and DirecTV, the two nationwide satellite TV providers that dominate the field and have agreed to merge.
