Well, I'm off of E* and onto D* as of today. I have a hughes exec. director rcvr and the old 18" round dish. So far my impressions are good. I haven't noticed much difference in terms of picture quality. I recieved strong signals from each company. I like the hughes rcvr better than my dish 301 rcvr. The menus, setup, and guides are far superior IMO. The customer service and billing seems to be good with DTV. Poor customer service and improper billing is why I choose to leave E*.

So far the only issue I have is getting my Sony audio rcvr to recognize the dolby digital input. I have an s-vid cable and optical cable going from my hughes to my sony rcvr. I set the sony to auto format decode and it recognizes that it's an optical connection, but still plays the sound in PCM. I did go through the menu on the hughes rcvr and make sure that the digital output was set to on. Any ideas would be great?

So far, so good on DTV, but it has only been 1 day. BTW, I got 3 month free hbo & cinemax for being a new customer. I assume this is standard practice.

I had it installed. The install was free with my purchase, so why not. It would have been easy enough to do myself as I already had the E* setup.

Thnx for the welcome too.

Seems every one is swapping from Dish. to DirecTV in Minneapolis, every second job I do is a simple swap over, most of the time the Dish. install needs to be grounded or otherwise brought up to code, but there is a big exodus to DirecTV. I am sure you will be very happy with it, good luck!

Make sure on your Hughes that you have the Dolby Digital setup properly. Make sure you set it to Auto or Dolby Digital (on the Hughes receiver). PCM is the audio output mainly used except the few channels that actually use DD5.1. Some of these are HBO and HBOWest, HDNET DD2.0 or 5.1, The Showtimes are either 2.0 or 5.1. Starz East and West are some of the channels as well as limited PPV channels. Not all the channels are Dolby Digital (incase you are not aware of this). Hope this helps ...

Thanks Storminokie. I messed around some last night and realized that I do have it all set up right. It is just the lack of channels that put out the 5.1. I did pull up a movie on hbo that was running 5.1 and it worked great. I'm a bit disappointed that not more channels output 5.1.

PSB- You're right on there. Sure enough my dish wasn't grounded so I made sure the installer did it. He also re-did the outside connections and put in the dielectric compound. So far so good.

I have a quick question. When I use the channel up/down button on the hughes remote...it will go up 1 channel at a time sometimes and other times a bunch of channels. I made sure the guide is set for all channels and all that stuff. Is this normal?

Unfortunately there are not a lot but they are adding them slowly. When I got my DD5.1 receiver, the only channels that broadcasted in DD5.1 was Starz and PPV. If you get Showtime, all of the Showtimes broadcast in either DD2.0 or 5.1.

As far as the channel scrolling, this will depend on the arrows you use. If you use the channel up and down buttons, it will scroll a page at a time. If you use the arrows surrounding the enter button, you will only go one channel at a time. I hope this helps ...

Thanks for the input StorminOkie. I did figure out how to fix my chan. up/down problem. Basically, I had to power down my rcvr and unplug it for a minute or so. After that, everything worked as it should.
