View Full Version : Possible SWS-4 Issue?

Here's the issue - I've been having a long standing problems with my HR-20 and my old H-20 receiver (since replaced by D* with an H-21). My 2 main issues on these 2 units (none of the others mind you, including my HR-21) with the MLB Package games not showing up, although I can get the game mix with no problem. There games are there, but nothing else. Typically a reset will cure thr problem, but occasionally it's more of a pain than that and requires a full reset. Also, my old H-20 never got got guide data and now suddenly my HR-20 does not either.

Here's what I have isolated. I can get guide data and no other MLB Extra Innings issues if I take the SWS-4 out of the line and run a straight line to the HR-20, same for the new H-21. None of my other boxes were on the SWS-4 before and all had homerun lines from the SWM to the box.

Do you all think this is an SWS-4 issue where it is no good? Or is there another issue at play that this is just masking?

For whats it's worth I checked all of my signals and they are properly strong in the mid 90's to 100. I seem to have no issues there, and as I said the guide data repopulates the minute I'm off the SWS-4 splitter. Any ideas?

When you bypass the SWS-4 do you also "bypass" a cable?

If so, a bad cable may be a possibility, too.

Yes I do.. I will replace that cable that runs between the SWM and the SWS-4.. good point. It's such a short run I haven't even bothered to think about it.

Ok.. not sure if it was a fix yet or not, but I did get some guide data on the H-21 for a few hours already... it had none when I started. And since I typically have to reset the box to get any data, thats a start.

Sounds like it could have been a cable issue, either defective or had a tiny cut or splice in it. Also could be the end connector itself is a little beat up or not making a good connection.

Turns out it's not the fix. The guide lasted for a couple of shows and is now exhausted again and lists of regular schedule. :mad:

Are you using all the ports on the splitter? If not, do you have the 75ohm terminators on the unused ports.

Nope.. the splitter came naked. the only terminator I have is on the PI in the house. I'm assuming you think that is an issue....

It's a possibility. Unused ports are supposed to be terminated.
