View Full Version : TODO list "options"?
After setting-up a manual recording for a show due to air next week, I had to "channel down" about 15 times before I got to that date and time in the TODO list to double-check that I scheduled it properly.
With remote response being what it is, I found this very annoying and it made me wish that like with the GUIDE, I could hit the YELLOW button to find a way to jump directly to a date/time of my choosing within the TODO list, or like with the PLAYLIST, I had the option to change the TODO list sort order (forwards, backwards, A-Z, Z-A).
I'm wondering how others feel about this potential "Wish List" request?
Ability to JUMP TO A DATE/TIME within the TODO list, or change it's SORT order.
TIA for voting. /steve
PS: The proposed DATE/TIME JUMP assumes that if no recording exists for the specified date and time, you will be brought to whichever scheduled recording is "closest" to that time.

You can also check your manual recordings in the "Prioritizer" screen. There are a lot less entries in that screen, so its quicker. I do like your suggestion though.
Would you consider enhancing the screen to provide a program description above the To Do List "new functionality"? That's what I'd like to see ...
I look at the To Do List daily, so I rarely go beyond the first 10 items, so I'm OK with current navigation but given that everyone has their own ways to use their DVRs, I would support additional navigation options.

How about a quicker way to get to the TODO list?

I don't know if its in the TODO list or the prioritizer, but I noticed if you bring up the list of episodes, click on one to see the details, then go back, it takes you to the top of the list again, so you have to scroll down again to get back to where you were. They need to fix that.

That's what I'd like to see ...I consider it more a proposal to make the entire UI more consistent. This one has been on the Wish List so long, you probably forgot it was there... at least I know I sometimes do!
Show the highlighted program's description in the "To Do List" and "History", instead of a static message.

I agree, I had to set up a macro on my URC9910 remote. So I can press 1 button and it does all the commands to get you to that screen.

Thanks to ABC and their :01 stop times, tho, I was forced to schedule a recurring manual for my wife's Private Practice, and it was a real PITA to scroll through our packed TODO list, to make sure I got it right for next Wednesday.
Next time, I'm gonna confirm individual recordings in the GUIDE instead, because at least I can "jump" while in there. Unfortunately, the GUIDE's not good for getting a single screen picture of a whole night's recording activity, unless it's all on adjacent channels.
What would be cool is a new GUIDE filter: "Scheduled to Record"! http://dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=140870

That's not the intention of this thread, so please... let's try to keep this one on topic. TIA. :) /steve

With all due respect, this would be a good idea, but I tried it and it doesn't show a manual recording. The "Prioritizer" still seems like the best option.

I know I know, I was just joking around, sorry. :)

In my "Prioritizer" it shows "Manual: Every Sat 7:00am" 2 Programs. If you press "Info" it shows channel, program name and run time. Just trying to offer a workaround.

Just trying to offer a workaround.No. I understand and agree. :) But what you describe is a "repeating" manual recording. If you set up a "one-time only" manual recording, I don't believe you can see it in the PRIORITIZER, only the TODO list.

Most of the time Up/Down ChUp/ChDn is sufficent.
However, occasionally I would like some additional sorting or jump features to make looking for something a little easier.

While I would like to see the ability to jump to a different date (time is not all that necessary), I also think the todo list should have more programs showing. It currently lists 5 shows when there's plenty of room to show 10 at a time (which in and of itself, would make surfing through the todo list faster).

How about using the red/green buttons like in the guide, but maybe jumping a full day at a time.

IMHO, I am happy with the way it is working right now

I voted for no change needed. I seldom have more than ten shows in my TODO list. YMMV.

"I won't use this feature, but don't mind if it's added for others." My bad. /steve

My lonely vote is I don't care if anything gets added as long as I don't lose any more functions of the To-Do list.
I consider hiding it in the menu as a loss of function.

If anyone would like to change their vote from "no new functionality is needed" to "I won't use it, but don't mind if it's there for others" (armophob's vote), please feel free to PM one of the mods: Michael D'Angelo, Doug Brott, Tom Robertson or Stuart Sweet, or just click the "report this message" icon on the left and request a change. voted option #4....dont really record enough stuff to matter.
I would rather see 10 lines per page rather than the paltry 5 that now shows. They would easily fit in the current box. Better yet, get rid of pig and give me even more!

Would be ideal.
I would still like a "JUMP" function, though. My living room HR's TODO list currently has 207 items on it, so even at 10 lines per screen, it's would still be 20 "slow" presses to get to the end of it. Of course that's better than the 41 presses it now takes!

I guess I know who has me on ignore now.Post fixed! See above. /steve
The only thing I would like added to the TODO list is the program description added (for whatever program is highlighted in the TODO list) at the top of the screen. Currently, the blue real estate there is wasted. Why not show the program description there? Seems like common sense to me.
