View Full Version : still receiving Searching for Sat in 2... 771
I know there have been several reports of no tuner 2 for HR21 and 22, including my own, but after several calls and one service call to the house to trouble shoot, I am still in the same boat. I have 2 HR20 and one HR10 connected using Zinwell 6x8. No problems. Upgrade the HR10 to HR21-200 on the 18th and immediately received the 771 error on tuner 2. Tried the new HR21 box in all three locations I currently have my other boxes connected (all receiving tuner 2 fine) and same results on the HR21, no tuner 2. Went to Costco and picked up an HR22, connected it and same problem on tuner two. Yesterday the DirecTV service man came and went through all the steps I did, including switching the cables and BBC’s from each Sat in on the box and by passing the multi switch and running directly from the dish to the one new receiver and same problem on tuner two. He then went to his truck and brought in another new box (a HR22- by the way) and again same issue. He was stumped. He said he would come back next week with a new dish and try that. I guess I am confused as to why my other boxes have no issues on tuner 2 but these three new boxes do? I am not nearly as well versed in this as most of you so if anyone can offer any suggestions as to a solution I would be very grateful. Oh, would a SWM possibly be a solution? I don't know too much about them except that I believe only one tuner is necessary. The guy that came out said he hadn't seen them and only the upgrade techs can install them but knew about them and thought that might be a last resort.

And I'm beginning to think that yes, it may be feed or alignment issue.
The alignment of the dish is far more important with the HR21/22 than with the HR 10.
So...first thing you should do is check your signal strengths from 99c and 103c. Write them down and post them here
Example below.
This is definitely the first step to finding a solution and there are many experienced people here who will gladly give up their time to help.

Of courese there are only zeros when viewed on the HR22 or 21. I hope this helps for any suggestions.
Thanks!!!!!
Do you have an older style AT-9 ("Sidecar") dish?

Last night in the chat room there were zeros on tuner #1.
With some checking, it was a bad BBC.
If the pigtail [cable] twists on the BBC, then it should be replaced.

Not sure. It is oval in shape and looks like it has an additioal LNB. I will try to get a picture.

Tried three different BBC's and so did the tech. Thanks though.

That is an AT-9 [sidecar]

Okay, thanks. Now I know but does that or should that make any difference with the HR21 or HR22 not being able to receive 99c or 103c?
Yup, that's an AT-9. Apparently there are some manufacturer's AT-9 LNB's which don't work properly with certain HR's, so a new Slimline may very well fix your problem. There's more going on than just the correct voltages and tones, to keep it simple.

Okay, THANKS!! I guess I will wait for the new dish before I get to disappointed.

I had several techs come out and do all the bbc, connector, multi switch replacements. It wasn't until one tech came out and replaced the sidecar with a slimline that my problem was finally fixed. It has been bliss for the last 3 weeks. The tech said the exposed wire between the extra lnb gets weathered. Don't know. All I know is I was having to reset me reciever every other day until he swapped out the dish.

I had an Andrew AT-9 that always had low signals with my HR20. I called D* several times, but they didn't think it was a big deal. A tech even came out, but didn't replace it. I finally got in touch with D* corporate and told them my problem. They instantly told me I should have already gotten a Slimline. They put one up the next week and it made a HUGE difference. The tech actually took the AT-9 for spare parts.

This is very promising!!! Unfortunately I am still waiting on my dish replacement but now I am feeling much more confident that it will take care of my issue. Thanks everyone.
