View Full Version : Forcing a download on older receivers

I recently pulled my original E* HTS Model 3200 out of the attic to try to install it in a bedroom.
I plugged it in and of course the software was very old. Called a CSR tech and to make a long story short, it would not download the newest software, even after being plugged into the sat for several days now. (Rcvr was off).
One CSR said that since it has been so long to upgrade the software, I may have to take it to a E* distributor and have them force a download off the 110. I called a dist., and they said they can't do that, that I would have to send it to E*.
So my question is, should I go through the hassle to try to save this receiver, or just go ahead and purchase a inexpensive model and trash the 3200.
BTW...on the system page, the screen says this is a model 2000(?).

The software for that receiver should come from 119 - did you try hooking it up to a 119 only dish, with NO switches inline? (or use a D500 dish w/ONLY an LNB on the 119 side - no twins or quads)

Not only that, but using the PD&S screen, put your old receiver on transponder 11

I have the twin LNB's (not the Pro). So it looks like your saying I need to take the SW21 out for now and go directly with the 119 and put the transponder on 11.
Now if I do all this, leaving the rcvr off, should I expect a download with an hour like the CSR said, or could it take over night?

Correct. (BTW, you DO mean you have the 2 separate dual LNB's on your D500 & NOT "a TWIN LNB" w/the integrated switch, right?)

Possibly, but sometimes I've found it's just easier to do it overnight while sleeping. You might want to remember what the software version is NOW, so you can tell if it really DID get upgraded.

Yes it has the 2 separate LNB's and I will hook it up as suggested and let it try to download over night.
I'm at work, so I can't tell for sure, but I think the software started out with 505XXX and I believe the CSR said to look for a P706XXX.
The chart I downloaded from DISH shows the 2000 at version7.09 with a release date of 7/25/2002. I believe the HTS 3200 is the same model.

P709 does sound right now that you mentioned it. Thanks.
For some of the older DISH Network receivers the software updates are no longer in the datastream. To get the latest software for those receivers you have to talk to a tech who can send the software to your specific receiver.

It is never necessary to put your reciver on a specific transponder to get a software update. Receivers do that on their own.
The problem is likely that the software update is no longer in the datastream. As I mentioned, older receiver owners need to call DISH tech support to get updated software.

Should I hook up the rcvr directly to the 119 sat then ask for the tech to push the software down to me? I've talked to them before and they said it would automatically download.
David,
That is not necessary either. Make sure that the TECH (not a CSR) pulls up your account and sends the software for the correct reciver. MOST of the software upgrades are still in the datastream but the older ones are not and the first person you talked to may have thought that your receiver should get it by just waiting but in reality they had to push it to your specific receiver.
