credit on my bill for signing up people. You do get a free system if
you commit to a year of service or $50 off a system if you just buy it

Everybody here has these. I'm beginning to think that ClubDish is why Dish has to raise rates to so much. Think about when the rates started to accelerate. Right after ClubDish was introduced.

They are almost as cluttersome as AOL disks...

I doubt it caused a rate increase on programming. I think that they will make out of it if anything because sometimes they get away with doing it directly through them not having to pay the retailer's commissions. Them paying the new customer and the customer that referred them is a lot cheaper than paying a retailer. When they do go through a retailer then it does cost them more money but they charge some retailers $100 more for each receiver than they used to and have imposed other things to make up for their extra costs.
