View Full Version : Another SWM-8, OTA question

I installed a SWM-8 (very cool by the way) and took my Square Shooter into the OTA port. I have read that it works to combine the OTA and SWM signal but I also looked at the DTV slide show and it says it will not carry the OTA to any ports but legacy. I have diplexed one TV and it does not appear to work (or work very well). Is the proper solution to diplex the SWM and OTA before the diplex to the receivers/televisions?
Thanks
Jeff
The SWM-8 has a built in diplexer that will diplex the OTA port with the SWM 1 and 2 outputs. You will then need a diplexer on the other end of the cable at your TV/Receiver to diplex out the OTA and SAT lines.
You can also use a standard diplexer right after the SWM 1 or 2 output and diplex in your OTA this way instead of using the OTA port on the SWM.

I have it set up this way now. The only thing I want is the local HD feeds and it worked before I changed to this setup. I'll try to diplex the OTA after the SWM and see if the signal improves.
My OTA went to piss after diplexing it into the SWM8. Went back to directly
connecting it... very disappointed in the signal loss amounts.

And when you went back it worked corretly?
The SWM-8 internal diplexer does cut the signal a lot. It also splits it between the two SWM outputs (1 and 2) so you are really taking a hit if you are only using one of the outputs.
Some have had much better luck externally diplexing because of this. Especially if your OTA signal is not super strong.

Strange how much this factor varies. I'm 32miles from all the towers and am using the internal SWM8 diplexer. My signal strength as measured by the HR20 is 94-100 on all channels.
I am using a non name brand diplexer from Ace Hardware on the receiver end.

OTA is a finicky beast. ;)
