We are having dish network installed this week and have a few question about which receiver to get. I like all that I have read about the pvr 721 and it's features but need to know if you have to have a dedicated phone line or even need a phone line at all. Also when recording a program, if the program should switch to another channel will the recorder follow to the new channel or continue to record where it was set? Thanks for the input!

By default ALL Dish Network receivers are supposed to be hooked up to phone lines. (However they don't seem to enforce this policy)

I have never known a program to start airing on one channel but end on another one. So no the 721 does not follow the program. :)

Thanks Scott. I have never known a program to switch either but we have to record the nascar race every sunday and with the war going on Fox always says there is a possibility that if needed they would switch to FX to finish broadcasting the race.

In such a case you could order it to record on both channels as a backup plan

I think what he meant was if someone just happened to change the channels while he was recording would it still record the program.

With a software upgrade that happened not long ago, yets it will still record the show. It will change the channel that the recording is happening on to the pip screen and the channel you are changing to the current mainscreen, that way you still do not miss our recording.
